Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Its about love, lost, and bloody rockstars. You should see it. The soundtrack is cool too.

I like a lot of musicals, but if you specifically mean a movie where music is part of the plot (not just a movie where they happen to sing) I'll go with "That Thing You Do" It's a really fun, sweet movie. And, the song is pretty catchy.

Everyone is listing such great movies! Here are some of my recent favorites:
Moulin Rouge--rented it recently, wasn't expecting to like it at all but was completely impressed! It has a quirky nature, and uses pop culture songs that everyone knows to tell the story. Funny, sad, great!
Mr. Holland's Opus-- an inspiring tear-jerker
Once--starring Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. I stumbled upon this one, and really enjoyed the music. Very low-key and humanistic. A great soundtrack, and a surprise Oscar win in Feb 2008.

Mine keep changes. Once it was An American In Paris. Then it was The Sound Of Music, But now it is Chicago. It has a great storyline. It is set in one of my favorite times, the late 20's early 30's.And the music is great.

I like School of Rock, but I don't have a favorite. There are too many musicals that I like and most of them are old ones. I love Grease. And some of my other favorites are The King and I, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, and I'm sure there are others that I can't think of.

Grease
When I was a kid I saw this movie in a drive-in
does anyone remember drive-ins?
anyway, I was not even five when I first saw Grease and I immediately learned the songs. We had the soundtrack on vinyl (a record album) and i played it so much over and over again that i wore out the record
to this day i still along with the movie when I see it
When ever the movie gets a re-release in the theaters I like to go see it
lucky for me this is normally at a dollar theater or discount theater

Funny but I really enjoy watching Barbie movies with my baby. Our favorite is "Princess and the Pauper". It has a lot of musical number in it too.

My absolute favorite right now is RENT hands down. It would have been nice if the creator had lived longer because he was a genius and paved a way for new forms of rolls and music for broadway. It would have been nice to see him do some more works. It also opened the eyes of those who stigmatized those with AIDS as them instead of an US disease. It affects everyone. They put a face on it in a time when everyone was petrified and afraid to face the reality of anyone with it.
My older musical movie would be WEST SIDE STORY. It's funny both talk about the lives of young America and the trails and tribulations they both face. This was in a time of innocence and apple pie in America. There were issues that needed to be addresses in the age of innocence.

I also like School of Rock. You're right. Jack Black is a right choice for that movie.
I enjoy watching musical movies. They are the kind of movie that you can enjoy watching for many times. I also enjoy watching Disney movies especially the musical cartoons like Alladin, Go the Distance etc.

I absolutely loved Moulin Rouge. I thought the concept was so original and the splicing of well-recognized songs was amazing. The lead actors Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman performed spectacular, spectacular (pun intended, heh) and even the supporting cast like Jim Broadbent as the Master of the Moulin Rouge was fantastic. I loved the music from this movie and it was refreshing to see a director's different take on a musical movie.
Other musical movies I love are:
*High School Musical 1 and 2. I know, I know. It's so cheesy, but I loved it! I like how it was a teenage movie that was actually wholesome. The second movie centers around many pool scenes and the girls are actually wearing quite demure swimsuits. It's rare to see hollywood NOT exploit young women. And the music was catchy.
*Hairspray. For lack of better words, this movie was just "happy". I watched it with a smile on my face the entire time and I loved the message of tolerance and equality - not just for races, but for different body types and other differences that people have.
*Disney movies. More so the older ones circa The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Pocahontas. The only newer one that really involved music was Enchanted and I loved that one too.
*The Sound of Music. Simply a classic.
*Grease. 'Nuff said.
