I signed up for oDesk today. I noticed there are several things you need to do before you actually become 'employed' as a freelancer. i took their test and failed (haha!) but will retake this week. I was just too excited that I didn't read thoroughly. they'll ask you to take a test about their policies.
anyway, has any of you tried oDesk and has been paid by them? I am really curious. This is a great sideline.

wow! they quit their jobs? what's their profession? I noticed they're offering more programming/computer type of jobs but i prefer the writing tasks, even data encoding.

I just signed up for oDesk. Actually I signed up for it a month ago and just got around to taking the readiness test two days ago.
There are so many tests to take that I just haven't had time to go any further. Maybe I'll look into it next week.

I have been a member of this site since February, and I always refer it to someone who needs an extra income or maybe a full time job. I do it part time, and it pays really good, depends on your expertise though. I didn't take the odesk readiness test because I have earned more than 150hours of work on it, it's just for freelancers who just newly signed up I guess. I took it twice to try, and failed on both!! Good thing I have earned hours already. Im from Phils. and from what I'm earning a week is like a month of work in an 8-5job. Sometimes even more, because I'm a member of another freelance jobsite. But Odesk is better, and your work are a sure pay every week, if you're working hourly.
All you need to do is passed the odesk test, and earn a good feedback, it's like ebay, the more positive feedbacks you have, the more buyers you'll get. Now if you have an IT background, the better job you'll get. I do admin. support, and that's my thing. Goodluck on your job!

I also signed up in odesk but i havent taken any test yet nor downloaded the program to keep track of the hours you render work. i find it all too time consuming and theres so many bidders, sometimes i wonder if you will be chosen coz others are doing it for years-the hardest i think is getting your first assignment. i used to check it until i joined mylot, sometime ill check or meybe ill just opt out..but youre right its a very nice sideline, you could earn very nice sum you can do it full time.
