Is Your Garden Filled With Weeds?

As Christians, we all have spiritual gardens. Some of these gardens have become overgrown with plants that might not belong in the garden. Some of the gardens might be downright weedy.
Do you as Christian, weed your garden regularly, or do you let the unwanted plants mingle among the good plants?
When is the last time you weeded your garden?

Just to get rid of the negative things around you makes a world of difference Margajoe. It's like cleaning house. Don't you feel better when it's all clean?

Hi,
That is easier said than done.
I know what you mean.
But most of the negative things in my
life are not mine.
They have been put there.
One for example was when I was 9 years old.
I am now getting help for this and I am
42 years old.
But, I will get there.
Cleaning house gives a good feeling.
Problem is when the dirt comes back.
Take care, Margajoe

It's a constant work in progress Margajoe. I know it's not that easy sometimes and I know most of the negative stuff around us is put upon us by others and outside influences. We still, however, have the choice as to how we allow it to reflect on us. It might take time, that's true, but as long as you can keep working on it, you've won half the battle.

I don't think one has to be a Christian to have a spiritual "weedy" garden..LOL. We can ALL have them...to me weeding my spiritual garden means talking stock of myself and eliminate any negativity that is in my life or thoughts. Even doing a physical thing, like periodically getting rid of things one no longer needs or use anymore...the concept of getting rid of the old to pave the way to bring in new. and you know what? It really works too. I just got rid of some things the other day, and then the next day a bit of prosperity came my way in the form of extra unexpected food that someone gave me

You are absolutely right pye,,,,,,one only have to realize that there is a spiritual garden to begin with. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
Your spiritual garden is much like mine. Taking stock is a phrase I haven't heard of in years, but I agree. One must take stock of things as well as themselves and eliminiate the negative forces that seem to be around them. It can be physical, emotional, spiritual, mental or even financial. It can cover a multitude of topics. The concept of getting rid of whatever it is that seems to be cluttering up one's life makes room for new things. It can even (sometimes) mean getting rid of some of the people - especially if they just seem to be negative all the time.
There are versus in scripture that relate to this same concept. One must clean out what is considered negative and replace it with what is positive. If the negative isn't replaced with positive, then the negative can return stronger and more powerful than before.
Thanks for being so positive and reminding me that people don't have to be Christian to be spiritual.

I thought you meant my garden outside, and I know with the thunderstorms, I cannot get at them and when it is dry, they are hard to pull.
Now to the spiritual weeds. I try to keep myself from doing things that would offend God, but it is a constant struggle. It is easy with music and singing, because I love Bach, and do not care for the rap "music" of today. With things such as movies, it is harder as the beautiful scenery of trees and meadows sometimes prevent me from seeing that the characters are swearing, etc. I try to keep them from influencing me, and as I said it is a constant struggle even to keep from saying those words when no one else would mind - that is an ungodly person - when I trip or fall or do something stupid.
My struggle is with low grade depression and fighting the urge to do something stupid when I am, like eating too much and keeping my body healthy.
I hope that is what you meant.

I try not to see it as a 'struggle' suspenseful. Whether it's with words, eating, depression or anything else, I don't beat myself up for it. I try to look at the positive side of everything and realize that I'm only human.
The thing about the garden? There are negative things; people, ideas, thoughts and so on that I try to keep out of it. If allowed to stay, they can grow up and strangle the good things. That's what I meant. It's just keeping the negative out as best we can.
