What instrument do you play and how often do you practise?
I play the trumpet and I'm currently getting ready for my gade 8 royal schools exam so I've been practising for about an hour and a half every day. It's hard work to keep dedicated. Any thoughts?

Thanks. This is probably going to be my last trumpet exam. Since I'm not planning on going into music as a career (engineering for me) I'm not going to go for a diploma after this or anything. That being said, I just need to practise extra hard so that I can get a good mark... even though as I feel my aching lips now I wonder if I'll even make the standard to pass. It isn't easy.

I play guitar, bass, and keyboard. I practice my guitar for at least an hour every day. I've been playing for almost seven years and I have noticed a huge difference, lol. Practice will do that to you. However, I play my bass every couple of months, lol. It's really tricky and it's harder than I thought it would be before I got on. Proved me wrong. And I try to practice my keyboard when I remember I have one, lol.

Sounds like you have a lot of musical talent going for you. I have enough trouble trying to get myself to practise one instrument but it really does make a difference in the long term. It makes a difference in the short term too (having tired lips all the time is a difference :P)

You will regret not keeping up with the trumpet. One day an opportunity will arise which will make you wish you had become the best performer you could be. You may not see it now, but it will happen. Yes, practice is hard. Anything worth doing well requires practice. It takes practice to be the best you can be even in your life's work. Without it you will never be successful. Practicing the trumpet will give you a sense of responsibility and discipline. Sorry to sound like a parent, but I've been there, done that.

I used to play Piano but after having a rubbish teacher for a year that didnt teach I gave up so it went downhill. But I decided to start playing the flute and that's going okay, apart from the fact that i barely practice - it is so hard to keep doing it, especially with no lessons or grades to work towards. But i join in with the woodwind and orchestra at my school so it's not all bad. Though I strongly recommend you keep up the practise to that a good grade!

I play the keyboard, sax, drums and guitar and the only thing I have to say is that keep up the good work because hard work definitly pays off. I don't know if you use your musical talents to profit, but good things are sure to come your way if you stay strong in music and never give up!
