A sad call that someone is sick

India

hi, i came home from work today, all happy that the day went well. Went to my elder sisters house for tea and a chat. We were just chatting about the third sister who lives abroad and the phone rings, just to know that my brother in law is very sick. How do you feel and how do you react. I just did not know what to say. My reflexes are real slow. It was later tht i thought of words of comfort i could have given her.

I can understand your situation. Had I also been in your place, I would have also not reacted very quickly, as I should have been. I have noticed that when you receive such kind of unexpected and uncomfortable messages, my mind also stops working for few minutes, when I gather my wits, then only I realise what has happend. Actually, I feel, we should train ourselves and our mind for unexpected situations and news, so that we could respond to unexpected situations rightly.

Usually when I get a call like that, I tell my realtive how sorry I am, and that I hope he or she will get well soon, and ask if there is anything I can do to help. Yes its hard to know just what to say so just be supportive, express your sympathy and offer what aid you can, thats all your sister would expect from you.

Just listen sometimes thats all we need when things are bad is someone to listen to us, you can always call her later or in a few days and say the things you want to now its hard to react quickly to things like that it catches you off gaurd. good luck
