Will Lewis Hamilton reach the heights of Michael Schumacher?

After watching yesterday's British Grand Prix, the style in which Lewis Hamilton drove in wet weather, beating the 2nd place man by a phenomenal 68 seconds, has made me think about an obvious question. His elegance in wet-weather racing reminded me of only one person, Michael Schumacher. Can Lewis trace the footsteps of Michael Schumacher and reach the same heights? Michael was a driver par-excellence in the wet-weather and what a tough champion. Come to think of it, imagine a driver who show such endurance in wet-weather, how will his handling skills be in dry-weather? He's already showing the signs of the great Michael Schumacher. What do you'll think?

Hello jasnil, I agree with your comment regarding Michael being the best ever - who could deny such a fact! Trust me ... he is also a really nice, quiet guy. I do think though, that Hamilton is beginning to become a little full of himself but without the wisdom or experience (in F1) to back it up. He has also been a bit silly with his attitude to the press in recent weeks hasn't he. But, after all said and done, Lewis Hamilton seems to me to be a really nice kid, and perhaps I should remind myself that god didn't make me a judge! Good luck to him I say, but lower your sights a little ... Schuey you are not!

i would say that hamilton has the potential to be and right now he is showing with but it still a long run and is still too early to say if we gonna compare him to the great michael schumacher. although he displayed excellence and was brilliant in the british GP, he displayed one of his spectacular skills in formula 1 and it was in a wet weather track. if he continue to display such eloquence in wet tires then he might be able to be at par with schumacher but for now, i cannot tell. just take into consideration what happened last year in his rookie season, he relinquish the big lead he had from the pack who chased him until the end. he displayed some great skills but not after winning the opening GP in australia and look what happened after that? he dwindled and became inconsistent, although he had just won back to back races but that won't be a gauge at this moment until he showed the consistency that schuey made and until he will continue that kind of momentum then he could be paired with the great champion. but until then, it's still a long race to burn tires.

that i could see also, his superb skills driving in wet rack in the british GP reminds me of the legendary michael schumacher but again, one race won't define lewis hamilton even he displayed a spectacular moves. let's find out what will happen when the season ends in brazil and how far could he get his second chance to be in the river's seat and take the number 1 spot. so far, he's been brilliant in the past 2 races, he toppled his rivals in british and germany GP and right now, he just claimed pole positions in hungaroring. mclaren 1-2 in hungaroring GP.

Yeah, it's a long race of life and one can never predict anything. Anything that has to happen will happen. It's just that one seeing his wonderful manoeuvre in the wet, that it reminded me of the great man - Michael Schumacher

maybe he can, especially with his impeccable driving in the wet weather.

Well, i would say this is too early to judge the driver in question, considering he has had just one full season so far. it takes time to be a real champion. Lewis Hamilton definitely looks good so far, but we have all seen him make silly errors when we least expected them. With a little bit of work, Lewis can definitely leave the competition eating his dust, but MS standards are too far away at the moment. i will make my next comment after 6 years.....

yes he is a promising new commer and a sudden contender of championship...and people might say he is arrogant..common he has the right to have little arrogance...almost became a rookie world champion...and is leading the championship...but to compare him to schumi is not at all justified....schumacher has battles with the greats of formula 1 and has stayed on top for 16 SEASONS...Hamilton is only in his 2nd ...and the challengers as i see are not in very good position....Kimi(illfaith)....alonso(he needs a car)...and Kubica(inconsistemt BMW).leave massa ..he is a driver only of a perfect car....and winning a grand prix from the pole like cruising to a grand prix victory and fighting for a win..r totally different...and in silverstone 08...two drivers stood out...kimi(2nd to 11th and then back to 4th and alonso(superb control..in such a inferior car) was a better watch...there was something called schumi magic..ability to fight for victory from the backfield..in trouble times..which hamilton has to display..before even thinking to be a schumi...i think it will be alonso...same aggression..both on track and offtrack...and ability to fight gp after gp..hamilton path will get tougher when alonso strikes back..its not over between these 2

Yeah, it's too early to compare him with Schumacher but the way he drove in the wet weather reminded me of Michael and the handling of the car was plain incredible.

I think its very difficult for a driver to come up to the level of what Scumacher has achieved. Although Hamilton is good, I think he is going too hard and there is a possibility of an early burn out.

Only time will tell and that doesn't mean that I am optimistic. Michael Schumacher was a class apart!

Yeah, it's an uphill task. But you never know, champions don't take long to charge up the ladder of recognition and break records.
