I am told that it's best to avoid watering the plants when sun is up and ground is warm. Without heat from sun, less water evaporates and more get absorbed by the soil. So I am told. Please post your views on this :)

I agree that is the best way to water plants outside. Either early in the morning before the sun has heated up the ground or late in the day after the sun has gone down and the ground is beginning to cool again

I water in the evening after the sun has gone down - this gives the plants all night to soak up the water before the hot sun comes out the next day.

Yes, watering is best done early in the morning before the sun has a chance to warm up the ground. To reduce the need for watering, use compost and manure so the soil can retain moisture better.

I think it's a good idea, too. I know that if you water plants during the heat of the day, the heat of the sun can damage wet leaves!

We usually water plants early in the morning while the sun rises from the horizon. And the 2nd time before the sun sets. Don't water the plants too late in the afternoon, close to night.
