emtpy calories

I have heard many people refer to somethign called empty calories while they were deiting. I jut am not sure what they are and what are examples of them are.

Empty calories are foods that have no real nutritional value: candy, chips, pop, other sweet or fatty junk foods!

Would juice be an example of empty calories? Pop does diet pop count as empty calories? I do my best to stay away from junk foods but i like my diet pop, i have one can a day but I know it does have 0 caloires
