Dogs prolong life

I have been around dogs for my entire life. Growing up I can always remember having some sort of dog walking around the house. I currently own 2 dogs one that is a dachshund and a chihuahua. I tend to keep smaller dogs because it makes it easier to find a place to rent when they are discrete.
In my experiences with dogs I find if you raise them right then they will do great by their owner. I once had a German Shepard and pit mixed dog that actually saved my mothers life. He was a playful little puppy that always wanted to run. Well one day my mom took him out on his leash and he tugged on it like he normally did. After she got done walking him she started to develop a pain in her chest and went to the ER that night only to discover she had fluid around her heart that had formed in a way that no one had an idea bout her condition. She had 2 liters of fluid drained that night. The doctors later told my mother that if my puppy had not pulled on his leash when she was walking him she would have died that night from drowning in her own fluids. Needless to say it was the dog that prolonged my mothers life and stopped an tragic death from occurring.

That's an awesome story about your mother. I've heard that dogs can prolong life. They make you happy when you're not and always seem to know how to comfort you in your dark moments. Dogs really are special. We have three right now and even though they can be handfuls they are gifts.

Your mom was very lucky. There have been studies done on whether having a pet helps to prolong the lives of the elderly and it's been proven to be true. Dogs especially are such great company for older people who are sometimes neglected by their busy family members and have little to do to occupy their time. My husban's father had a cat who he treated like a person. He used to get very angry at that cat because she wouldn't listen (what cat does?) but she would always make up with him and make him feel better.
