i went downtown today to look for a job and i dressed up really nice. i wore a little lue dress and gold ballerina shoes. i thought it was cute. but... as i was looking around and i couldnt help but spot so many people looking like slobs and looking like they dont care about what they look like. is it just about comfort now? because i think wherever you go you should look nice. i was raised like that. i dont mean like wear a gown or suit when going outside but people could take a little more thought into what they wear. what if you spot your boss while outside? and he sees that you are dressed like a slob... what would he think? i would think differently about that person later. i know its not all about looks and material things, but its more taking care of yourself and how you present yourself. you can still be comfortable and look good. doesnt anyone watch "what not to wear" anymore? i mean, come on people... pull it together. am i wrong?

It dose seem that way, I can say that I am not one of those people. I have seen people that are way too casua sometimes for where they are. I guees besides at work maybe 85% of the people I encounter are like this. The worst are some of the people I meet when conducting interviews. Once I saw a guy that showed up in jeans and had on one of those over sized polos the rapers wear, by the way he was white. Well I would even see him, I just walked over and told him the position had been filled. This may be fine for some environments but where I work it is unacetable.

I've read through your response and you do come across as smart and sensible. I agree that people should give a little more thought to what they wear. Appearance should not take a backseat to comfort; if everyone can find comfy clothes that looks great on them too, then that's a bonus! I don't believe all comfortable clothes have to look drab or dull. I dress comfortably everyday because I want to be productive and not allow clothing to restrict my movement, but, I manage to look nice too. As a matter of fact I still get compliments every so often even if Im wearing jeans and blouses only. On the other hand, as I am older (im 38) I've come to agree with the saying " to look as fab as ever, accentuate your spirit" Ha,ha. Truly, the attitude we wear tells more about ourselves than the clothes we wear. But then again, a great soul in nice clothes still wins hands down.

A lot of people here in Australia don't really want jobs but have to go for them fo get theit benefit money so I know a lot here deliberately dress down but i think the days of really dressing up is gone, I think people should just dress basically the way you will be dressing when you get the job for your every day work...
