Fewer Jobs available and Even Fewer available to many AMERICANS

I have been out of the work force for a few years for medical reasons. A few months ago I was finally released to rejoin the work force, and I am finding it almost impossible to locate jobs in my fields. Why? Because I am not bilingual SPANISH speaking!!
I have located many jobs that I am qualified for, with the exception of the spanish speaking aspect. Why should I not be considered qualified for the job simply because I don't speak spanish in my OWN country?
Illegals have driven our wages down, and continue to do so by taking the jobs that SUPPOSEDLY Americans "won't" do (as I always say, we won't do it for slave wages, and we can't afford to, since we refuse to live 40 to a house). NOW they are the driving force of many Americans not being able to take jobs in many sectors because WE don't speak spanish.
I am somewhat bilingual in the french language of my heritage, but I have NEVER in all my working life encountered any job that required it.
Why when I am calling offices that, by virtue of what they do or offer, the people calling into them should already speak ENGLISH, are they telling people to press 1 for spanish? Why am I having to "press 1 for English"?
Have others noticed the increase in jobs requiring bilingual?

"Why can only 300 Mexicans go to war?"
"The army only has three trucks."
Ummm...seriously, though, you're right. I always thought that anyone that comes here from a foreign country with the intention of staying should be required by law to:
A.Pass an English test, or take classes until they can. Just enough to be able to hold up a conversation.
B.Get on the road to becoming citizens. Green cards and all that.
C.Prove what they're here for. The had better not be terrorists.
And if they can't, we should ship them home. Six month waiting period to try again, no exceptions. Jail time for a second and subsequent offenses.
Which doesn't really answer the question. But it would solve the problem.

And I mean that they should have to do A, B, and C. Not just one.

If they are trying to become legal citizens, and coming to this country legally, they are required to do all that you listed and more. The problem is that there are 12-20 MILLION illegals, and they are the ones forcing these issues. Why our government is allowing it, is the major issue, and the Americans who are not willing to fight it only allows the government to provide more assistance for these people. Nothing infuriates me more than hearing that these illegals have "rights" to these things. They are ILLEGALS!!! They are NOT entitled to the same rights as Americans or LEGAL immigrants!!

Which is why the penalties are the most important part. There is absolutely no desire to deport them back to their home countries. The Cuba-Florida wet foot-dry foot policy, for one thing, is a total joke.

When I first moved to Florida I took a year off and then started looking around for a job. I encountered the same problem...bilingual required...and my reaction was the same as yours. I'm stunned that otherwise qualified Americans are denied opportunities in their own country because they only speak the language of their own country.
As far as the jobs Americans supposedly won't do...the construction trade has been taken over by cheap labor and people who have earned a living for years as carpenters, roofers, dry wall mechanics and finishers, and painters are being forced out as employers hire illegals to work for less than half the money. The jobs that are being taken away from Americans aren't just in the fields.

My husband is a mason, and though the construction trade has taken a hit because of the economy, the pay has been dropping much longer than that. The company my husband works for refuses to hire illegals, but that doesn't prevent the reduction in pay, because they still have to be able to bid the jobs at a rate that will get them the work.
I called the health department recently, because my son got food poisoning from a Mexican food place he had eaten at (the second time in about 6 mos). When I called the health department, the person assigned to our case was a heavily accented hispanic, and I had seen the add for this job not too long ago, in our state job bank. The only requirement that I didn't have was the bilingual. What makes me so angry is that I called the health department after my son got severe food poising from eating at this fast food restaurant(not a major chain), and the person assigned to this case is a hispanic, and she would not be investigating the restaurant for a couple of days because "she had a visitor coming".
Not only are these people driving down our wages and causing Americans to lose out on jobs simply because they don't speak spanish in OUR OWN country, they are also opening businesses and not being held to the same laws and standards as American owned businesses.
