Would you rather knit, crochet or cross-stitch?

I've always been a frustrated artist hehehe. I love doing arts - drawing, sketching, painting, scrapbooking... though I'm not really good at 'em:(
These days, I want my hands to get busy on something new. I've been trying to choose among knitting, crocheting and cross-stitching. I confess I don't know all the how-to's of all three but I wanna learn something new and I can't wait to begin on a project and see the finish product!
Well, knitting uses the yarn and I may have a pair of socks, a sweater or a bag; crocheting on the other hand still uses the yarn but it uses a crochet hook and complicated loops, I may have a cool doily or a beautiful lace as a project. Cross-stitching, well, there are several patterns to choose from ranging from nature, cartoons to people, especially babies... uh uh, I may want the cross-stitch. But I want the sweater and the lace too...
Shucks! It's so difficult to decide...
Maybe you can help me.. Which of the three is more convenient, much easier to learn, lesser expensive and more practical? Would you rather knit? Crochet? Or cross-stitch?

I would have to say knitting but the only way I know how to knit is on one of the nifty knitters looms. I find it really fun.

ya the loom makes it really easy to learn to knit. They have round looms and straight looms.

I've done all 3 and I have stuck with crochet. There are alot of patterns to choose from, it is easily learned, portable, and there is free form crochet which you just let yourself go and make up your design as you go. The stitches may look hard to do, but once you get started its simple. A loom is a great way to get started. You can get them at A.C. Moore, Joanns, Michaels, and hobby lobby. Some of these places offer weekly 40% off coupons. There are some Yahoo groups for looming and their very helpful too.

I love to crochet and I'm ok at doing cross-stitch but when it comes to knitting I end up with bend needles LOL. I have a crocheted blanket that I'm going to be working on in a little bit for my bed. It is a king sized bed and the blanket is huge. To be honest I'm a bit burnt out on it (no I'm crispy burnt out) but it is so close to done I really just need to finish it and move on to something else.
For me the cross stitch was the easiest to learn and the crochet wasn't very hard either, knitting on the other hand is going to take some doing but it is on my to do list before the year is out.

I'll get there I promise. I have my yarn all set out in it's little space and once the yarn is used up the blanket will be done. It probably would have been easier on me if I made wider strips. I backed myself into a corner now so I have no choice but to follow through on it, ripping it out is not an option.

Wow! You're crafty! I do wish you'll finish something though before you're burnt out... It's just a waste not to see the final product.

I can't see well enough to cross stich, but my mother is very good at it. As far as crocheting, I never caught onto it. I can only knit scarves. I've made a couple of really nice scarves, so I guess I'd have to say that I prefer to knot, as long as it's nothing more complicated than a scarf.

I took up all three in Home Economics from elementary to High School. When I learned how to knit, I made 10 pairs of booties for all the babies I knew at that time. When I learned how to crochet, I did several pouches and bags for my classmate and I.
I really loved (and I still do) cross stitching. In fact, I've done hundreds already. Some I had framed, others gave as gifts and others still at home. I can cross stitch fast because, like you, I want to see the final product at once. It is so fulfilling to see your project finally take shape after so many "xs".

I wanna have those professional-looking cross-stitches too! I wanna frame them and admire them everyday! I think i would need the patience as well...

I can knit and do cross stitching, but I prefer cross stitching, I just think it is a lot prettier and I would see it is easier to learn, because if you make a mistake then you can easily go back and correct it. I am currently doing a thing that I want to put in the bathroom that is of a teddy and a toilet with the message "If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie".

Hi there!
Well for me I would rather cross stitch. Its my passion. I have finished so many designs already. I have earned also from this hobby. People pay me to cross stitch for them. They choose the design and I stitch it for them. I can also make a photo stitch. I usually make wedding and baby pictures. It is also a nice gift for your friends.
Yes cross stitch do take some time to finish. But the time frame to finish actually depends on the pattern you choose. There are small and simple patterns available in the market. Sometimes a small pattern takes only 1 day to finish.
I would suggest you choose a project that your most comfortable with. And mostly what your heart really desires.
Ciao!

That's really nice. Making a living out of something you really enjoy doing. I wanna learn to cross-stitch as well, methinks it's the easiest of the three... Good luck on your passion-business... :)

Well... of those three, I guess the crochet is the easier. Cross-stitch can become tedious and boring, and depending upon it's scale, very time consuming. Knitting is just downright challenging for me!
I like CREWEL work, however. There's a lot of variety of stitches, and it can be big, bold and splashy or tiny, detailed, and luxurious.

Crewel? Now that's something new to my ears... Yeah, I seem to favor cross-stitch now, it seems easier...

I am needle work illiterate. I have tried to knit but somehow my thumbs got in the way. As far as Crochet or cross stitch. I know i would be all thumbs. Besides that I dont have patience to sit in one spot and do something over and over again. I would go crazy. lol

I love to crochet, it is relaxing and you can make anything crochetting, it is not as hard as knitting in my opinion. I think knitting is a lot harder unless you are usinga kniffy knitter which is like a circle with little pegs all around that you wrap the yarn around sort of and just keep pulling the bottom threads over the top,
It would be best if you could have someone show you what I mean as that may not be discriptive enough.
anyway, I would like to cross stitch too, but I am not all that good at it, and the patterns are hard on my eyes as I have poor eyesight.
I would suggest crochetting, you can make anything crochetting, I make pocket books, blankets, slippers, scrunchies, wash clothes, pot holders, varies different types of bags, coasters, decorations, just everything,
I love love to crochet it is very relaxing. You can use a lot of different things to crochet too, I have even crochet old grocery bags. Then I know that some people will cut old clothing up into strips and crochet that so that they can make rugs or baskets or whatever.
Maybe you can take some classes at a craft store or something.
Hope you have a great day

well i know a little about cross-stitching. i've done up a piece or two of the smaller ones. i simply don't have the patience to attempt anything bigger. i don't know how to crochet though i wish to learn that one day. then i'll go on a crocheting spree and crochet anything anyone can imagine. i would love to crochet a blanket. i love knitting the most. i learnt knitting to train my patience. i used to be a very impatient person. knitting has helped a little. but the most wonderful thing i've gotten out of knitting is the pleasure on the recipients face when i gave them something i made. ;p

Knitting and crochet are fairly easy to learn. The loops are not complicated in crochet, they just look that way and you have to learn before you go on to complicated patterns.

My grandma used to knit, crochet, cross-stick, quilt, etc. I always thought that was wonderful. She would make little keepsakes for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I have a crochet sort quilt-like patterned blanket. It is a series of crochet hexagons of black, gray, and white to make a sort of squirrel pattern. No, squirrels weren't particularly important to me. No, I wasn't a tremendously squirrelly boy. I think, in my humble opinion that grandma just saw a design in some book, made it, and then remembered that she'd never given me a blanket yet.
I greatly appreciate it and have stored it away as a keepsake.

I like to Crochet alot more. I would like to learn to Knit but never have got the time to learn. Yes some of the loops are complicated, but all you need is patience to learn how to do them. I have been Crocheting on and off for 25yrs now. It can been relaxing and when you have finished a project you are proud of what you have done.
