I started this topic because the computer that I always use does not sit in my room resulting in no privacy to whatever I'm doing. My parents is quite strict at that time, they wanted to see what me and my brothers are up to on the internet even though I'm in my 20s.
Now, I'm waiting to have my laptop delivered to me within this week, hoping to have internet access in my room and have some privacy. I'm so looking forward to that. Not only this, my house is like a freezer and because my computer sits outside my room in a big open area, my whole body is frozen after only 20mins of internet usage. That is, without the heater.
With the new laptop in my room, I'm gonna have internet access in a much enclosed warm area.
So, where does your computer/laptop sits at home?

Well, my computer is placed somewhere in our sala set. It doesn't matter if they see me using computer. Well, I'm comfortable using my computer even if it wasn't placed in my room. My parents knew what I am doing with my computer, they know that I used internet in productive way... I used my computer and internet for making a websites for my clients. I'm a freelance web & graphic designer that means I need to use computer alot.

It is a laptop...it goes where ever I want. 99% of the time it is in the living room. I don't care if I have privacy when I am on it since there is nothing I want to hide.

hi snoopy. I have my computer in my sister's room. We share one PC and we pay our internet bill half by half. I am glad that our computer isn't located in my room, because I don't like to have many things in my room, because it would be more messy.
My sister is going to buy a laptop soon, so our computer will be my own computer soon. And then it will be located in my room of course.
I think your parents shouldn't check what you are doing while surfing internet, because you are an adult. When a person is under 18 years old, I think it is acceptable when parents check what thier son or daughter do in front of their PC. But I personally wouldn't check my child. I don't have children, but I think that everyone needs some privacy. It is good to talk with your child about possible danger connected with surfing internet, but it's enough in my opinion. Very young kids should not have any access to an internet.
Have a nice day, jazgottt.

Yes, I am going to have my own computer. It is not so important for me to have my own computer. We have an internet connection, which can't be shared for 2 computers, so internet connection would be rotating from my room to my sister's room:).
take care, jazgottt.

Hello, snoopy88!
My computer is currently at my bedroom. It's my and my brother's bedroom, so I don't have full privacy, but what I get is enough. My mother constantly comes here, and all, but I don't mind. I can use it relaxing, near my bed, near my guitar and the keyboard that I've got. In other words, all I want is in my bedroom, there's no need for me to leave here.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

Hi snoopy, I have my laptop... and sometimes I work in my desk that is in my bedroom, but some times, meanly at night, I work in my bed... but for that you need to be sure you have something that avoid you receive the heat from the laptop 'cause it's dangerous... but of course having your laptop is very confortable, and you know you can have your information totally save from the eyes of other people.

My laptop sits on an endtable that sits behind the loveseat right now. Next to the loveseat is the recliner that I spend most of my sitting time in. From here, I can easily grab my laptop and do whatever I need to with it. This started 5 years agao when i had to have neck surgery. I couldn't sit up straight in a regular desk chair at my desk with my desktop computer, so I started using a laptop. Then came my back problems. I ended up having to have fusions for both problems although at different times. I'm finally back to the point where I could probably sit at my desk, but now that we are planning on moving real soon, half my desk is packed up and not worth messing with. Once we get moved to the new house and get everything moved properly into the new office, I will again start spending more time at my desktop using my desk than using my laptop from my recliner. Laptop usage will become a normal, quick look up or portable solution only again.

My computer is in the dining room, basically for the same reason that your parents have it in a open area as well as the fact that with it being a room that everyone uses, the computer does not "belong" to anyhow, so anyone can use it.
My laptop is usually in my bedroom or the sitting room, depending where I last used it. This is only used by me, unless someone else asks to use it if the main computer is in use.

Yeah my laptop is more personal. I can't really do anything about other people using it as it was bought as a gift and I am not always there to watch to make sure no one is using it. My sister is no longer allowed to use it, because she went on "naughty" websites.

Well right now we have four computers in the house. My husband uses the desktop in our office and he also uses his laptop in there. I have a desktop in my daughter's old room (she is 27 and no longer lives here). This is where I spend most of my time. I have created a very cozy space with a small corner desk. I keep the bedroom door open all the time and occasionally my husband pops his head in to check on me....Ha! When I use my laptop, it is wireless, so I usually either go in the kitchen or out on the deck with it. My signal is not too good so my area is limited.

Hmmm..I guess I have never thought to put a computer in my bedroom because I have a big house with lots of rooms I can use, since it is just the two of us now. If I had a computer in the bedroom it would keep my husband awake and he would complain...plus his snoring would drive me nuts..

Sounds like you have your own comfy zone which is great to hear. I see you use laptop in kitchen or out on the deck but why not the bedroom, as most of the people in this response does? It will be mad if I have a deck so can enjoy the fresh air while using the laptop.
Have a nice day!~

I have a desktop and and a laptop. We use our son's old bedroom for a computer room. Both my husband and me have a desktop computer in there. But my laptop stays here in the den most of the time unless I need to print something off. Then, I go in the computer room and hook up to the modem. He moved the printer and now it's only hooked to his computer and I can't do it wireless right now.
You will definitely enjoy that laptop. I used to spend lots of time in the computer room. But with the laptop, I spend more time in the den. But I like a cool room, especially in the summer. In the winter, I just wear sweat clothes. I'm very cold natured.

Well, I mostly use my laptop. But I do occasionally use the PC. I bought the laptop to have to do genealogy at the college genealogy library. I never used it at home for a long time. Then, once I did, it was hard to stop. I would use the PC more if I had a new chair. The seat bothers me on the one I have. Both of us need new chairs, but haven't made the purchase yet.

will definitelythe desktop at my house is placed on the computer trolley which I have. But when it comes to placing the laptop I think I use flexible lady of the laptop. It can be placed at the same trolley when I have kept my desktop because my trolley is designed to accommodate a laptop and a desktop PC with even a CRT monitor. And sometimes when I use my laptop on my bed I have his wife by card installed and an extra charge just by the side of my bed so that I can relax a bit and use my laptop on the bed to my comfort able position.

I would love a laptop and am saving for one right now. I have my desk top computer in my computer room. I do know that my friends who have children keep the computer in the living room even when some of the children are going to University or college, but if it is quite cool in your living room, maybe they should think of insulating the house.
You cannot do much about your parents not trusting you, they have not realized that you are an adult now. Just be patient and show them that you are not going to inappropriate sites and also since it is a family computer, they are in charge.
With the new one, you will be in charge. Just be careful, get a good anti virus and a firewall, and do not give out your email address to anyone, you never know who might be lurking in the background.

I bring my laptop any where in the house, we have 1 desktop computer and 2 laptops. When I am doing mylotting, I do it while watching television so I put it under the center table near the television. I do multi- tasking. And then when I'm about to sleep I will bring it inside my room, and I take some glance on mylot, just checking in my earning.

my laptop sits her on my bed and I bring it everywhere. It can sometimes be seen sitting on my small desk, that is when I feel like also sitting down when I'm using my laptop. But most of the time it's here with me inside my room on my bed. So I also sleep with it beside me.

Sorry you have to go through something a bit nasty. Each person has to accept responsibility for their own actions and you can only achieve them if you are allowed some privacy. My computer is in a bedroom which I have converted into a office. Phone, TV the works. I do like to work on my own.
