Pay to install?

Dear mylotters. I remember I read about a post that says a company is paying people to install some kind of software on their computer that allowed the company to make use of other people's computer processing power. I would like to know what is the program's name and whether it does pay or is just a plain scam. I tried doing a web search for it but nothing came up.
