Do you know your neighbors

I mean more than just a hi or how you doing. More than just idle chit chat. Do you invite them over for a cook out or for a good game of cards. I just took a trip up to North Carolina to my sister in laws. She knows all of her neighbors and has them over and they have her over. I dont think i know more than 3 of my neighbors names. I never do anything with any of them. Are we becoming so ingrossed with our own lives that we don't take time to meet new people.
What about your kids friends, do you know their parents? Many years ago my son had a friend that stayed at my house for 4 days and finally i told him he could not stay anymore till i met his mother because i was scared that he ran away from home. His mother came to my house and we chated for about 5 minutes. I often wondered why she was not interested in meeting the person that her child was staying with. I never let my child go stay at someones house that i did not know. Anything could happen what if they were drug dealers or child molesters. I know this would not prevent things from happening but it could deter it from happening.
Am interested in knowing your oppinion

Hello cindystoufflet,
I live in my neighbour hood for over twenty years when we first moved here the neighbours used to get togather once a week in each other houses and we small parties as well, now they all moved away and we now have new neiighbours they not the same although they are very friendly and will look ater your house when you are away. The won't socialise with any neighbours but I do like them and they do help out if your in trouble.

Yes I do know my neighbors. I have had them all here for parties and I have been invited to their houses for parties too.
There are 3 of us that have kids. Mine are older, but the kids all ride the bus together so they get along too.
I know all of my kids friends parents. I make a point to get to know them before I allow my children to go to their house.
It is harder now that I have a 16 yr old who drives. I try to find out where he is and either call the parents or when I see them at a sporting event, I introduce myself.

We just moved to our own house this April and we barely knew anybody except for the broker who sold to us the vacant lot and since she is living in the same neighborhood. My parents are only 30-minutes walk away from our residence so we frequently see each other.
