I have used cameras of different mega pixels, starting from 1.3 mega pixel to 10 mega pixel and I think that a camera of about 7.8 to 8.5 mega pixel is enough for what ever demand one can have in terms of quality of picture. using a 10 mega pixel camera or above fills up the memory really soon.
I read today that Hasselblad is going to introduce a camera of 50 mega pixel. I just can't think of its use and it surely will eat up memory in units of GB not Mb.
What do you think about these digital cameras

The megapixel quality of cameras is getting pretty silly. I know someone who's a professional artist, and he says that 1 megapixel provides enough quality for the average person. Can you even see the difference in quality between 7 and 50? Without enlarging the picture on a computer, just with the naked eye and normal picture size.

Hi.
I won't say that a one mega pixel camera is good but still it is hard to tell the difference in pics from different cameras without zooming them.

I think 5 to 7 or 8 megapixels is enough. Like you said, higher has no better use unless your planning to print a billboard size blow up of your photos, and it does take up big size in your memory. People should know this and be practical in buying gadgets, because some would just buy whatever is the latest release or whatever they see that is higher(version, pixel, etc) without knowing it's use and/or purpose. They'd spend for nothing important.

fifty mega pixels!!!! what is the world coming to! since when did anyone need that, I'm happy with anything under 10 and im pretty sure it would massively eat up the memory, imagine the sized memory card you would need to store 50 pictures! you'd have to upload pictures everytime you have taken some!
