Rice queen here! lol
First of all, there are lots of great rices out there, and my two favorites are sushi rice, and Jasmine rice. Brown rice is better for you and has a nutty crunchy texture.
Jasmine is my favorite. It smells wonderful and cooks better than the plain rice.
I like to add things like, grated cheese, cheese whiz, or a creamy salad dressing like ranch or blue cheese.
Stir frying it is awsome too. Make your rice and stick it in the fridge to get it cold. Take a deep non-stick pan, get it heated up, place a pat, of butter into the pan, and add your rice. Use a spatula and stir it around getting the rice coated. Add some teruyaki sauce to that and just pan fry it. You can add veggies, and meat to make a meal, but I love the plain stir fry rice best.

If you want the whole pot cheesy, add it to the pan.If you only want a plate of it, than add after its been served. It does melt better in the pan. Forgot to mention that sour cream and cheese is to die for!! :)
Oh and invest in a rice cooker!!! I scoffed at the idea since a regular pan works fine, but the cooker steams the rice to perfection and I haven't been able to go back. Bonus, it keeps your rice hot and fresh all day long!
And hey, whoever it was that said we must be Chinese to like rice so much, I'm French/Italian, but got teased about being Chinese because all I eat is rice. I don't care though. Awsome food, beautiful people, I don't think its an insult.

I like to experiment with leftover rice. What I do is saute garlic in butter and then add the rice and mix it well - that makes garlic rice.
If I want to make it more flavorful, I toss in bits of meat, bacon or hotdog and leftover fried fish and veggies (carrots, green peas, corn). I call it Yang Chow style, like the one they have in a Chinese restaurant.
It actually becomes a meal in itself, while utilizing any leftovers I had the previous days. It's an economical yet tasty dish!:)

I like rice with a bit of soy sauce or ranch dressing. Sometimes, I put a piece of cheese on top to melt. I have also been known to mix in a bit of cream cheese. It really tastes good. I love rice but was under the impression that it wouldn't be very helpful in my dieting efforts. That it has too many carbs and such. Am I wrong? Should I try to have that for lunch instead of a slim fast shake?

Hey Trace! I've never thought of ranch dressing in it... that sounds really good! I LOVE rice and while dieting, it's PROBABLY NOT the best thing to eat, however... you can't deprive yourself from everything... just have it in moderation... you DEFINATELY don't want to starve yourself!

I eat rice almost every other day. I try to vary it by adding a spice or tow to it. My favorite way to make white rice is to add some Cumin to the water (or broth) before adding the rice. The flavor of the Cumin goes right into the rice while it is cooking. It is awesome.

I'm a little amazed that an American people like you like rice so much.Maybe you are an Asian immigrants,in my mind, local Americans usually don't eat too much rice.In China, cooked rice is the staple daily food for everyone. The best rice in China comes from Northest Area, the rice comes from Thailand is also welcomed by lots of Chinese people.
