While I was looking up and doing research for a discussion I just started about medications and children, I happen to see another glaring article that "spoke" to me....LOL. My great-grandmother was a nurse but thought all doctors to be..uh, well A-holes...she didn't believe in medications and preferred natural and herbal remedies. She never took anything stronger than aspirin and lived to be 98. Well one of her "recommendations" was to drink what she called a "pony" of port wine, or red wine in general...(Could someone Palease tell me what a pony means...is it a shot glassful??)--heck she even like her glass a day of good ole whiskey...LOL-- I remember my mother telling me that having that "pony" of red wine was good for the blood. Now I've never been a big drinker, but have to admit..a little while before I stretch out in bed and read before going to sleep, I like sitting and watching some TV while indulging in a glass of red wine (always preferred red). And goodness, now a new article has come out about the benefits of red wine. This is all due to the chemical resveratrol that is in red wine and has anti-aging properties...other studies in the past even have suggested that red wine is good for cholesterol levels. This chemical resveratrol is only found in the skin of grapes which is what makes red wine red...the skin is removed when white wine is fermented. Tests have only been done on mice so far --gee, they must be happy mice..LOL..and they do get very high doses of the resveratrol chemical (very happy mice indeed)...but so far it looks like the benefits of resveratrol could have a great impact on the health of us humans. The article is here and again..there's a video one can watch http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=5325848&page=1 So do you partake of red wine??? Did you realize the health benefits of wine. I have a nice bottle of Gato Negro Merlot in my fridge...
