Is your dog a "barker"?

I can say that my girlfriend's dog is a "barker" and a very loud barker at that. He always barks at strangers and cats and other dogs. He is a house dog; he spends most of his time inside the house and only go out of the house to urinate and defecate. I think his being a house has something to do with his being a "barker" because he is not accustomed to people and other dogs.
How about your dog? Does it usually bark at strangers or is it friendly with people and other dogs?

Yes she does and this sometimes drives me crazy. She barks at cars going down the road and even chases them alot,no matter how much we scold her for it.She barks at strangers and at other dogs, strangers is a good thing because i know she is just trying to protect us.She is a Yellow Lab and she is a house dog as well. You have a great evening.

Most breeds of dogs are territorial and bark to let people or animals know that the are is theirs and are attempting to protect their area is all.

He's somewhat of a barker. He's a german shepherd, so he's naturally very protective. So when people come to the front door, he'll bark at them. (But once they come inside, he stops barking and greets them friendly!) Or if he sees dogs outside on walks or running around in the neighbor's yard, he'll bark at them.
However, when we go out, he doesn't really bark at all. Even if he sees a cat or another dog or something. He really only barks at home.
I work in a pet store, so I see all kinds of dogs come into work all day long. Some dogs never make a single peep. Other dogs are constantly barking the entire time they're there. So I definitely see a lot of dogs that I would consider to be much more of a barker than my dog.

I don't have a dog, but neighbor's dog is a barker. It's a little dog too, so it doesn't so much bark, but it yaps. It's really annoying. It's some kind of little poodly dog. They leave it outside tied up a lot and it will bark at everything. My cat, the wind, cars, people, imaginary stuff, you name it. Sometimes they even put it out there at 4:00 in the morning, which is really annoying.

He he, Your girlfriend's dog is jealous of you, he's thinking your going to take her away from him. But don't worry I'm sure its a small type and his bite is just a small one.) I have two actually and kinda big for an average dog and they bark a lot, I expect them to be that way, but for regular visitors they don't.
Maybe you need to court that one too. I just want to remind you that dog's that bark usually don't bite.)

Yes, I think he is jealous. But after a while, when I became a
regular visitor in their house and I would be the one to
feed him, he stopped barking at me.
Now we are best of friends, and my girlfriend is now the one
who is jealous.
I am now the one who bathes him every week when I go there.
I have actually thought also that barkers are not biters, but
just last month, this dog has bitten a boarder in an adjacent
house. My girlfriend has to pay for the medicines, but
fortunately, our dog has no rabies.
Have a nice day!

Dear friend,
My dogs do bark when strangers come in or if any suspicious moves goes on the my house compound. But if anyone in our family say stop barking my dogs stops. It do not bark continuously may unnecessarily hope well training could help this dogs to obey instructions much obediently. Dogs barking beyond a limit is really horrible I may not get that peace of mind.

My dog only barks when someone comes in the gate or knocks on the door. He is super friendly and if knows who you are he will stop before you knock. He looks out the window to see and
when we are out walking i will see a lot of little dogs that go crazy and bark but my dog just walks on by them and doesn't bark back:)
I'm so glad hes not a barker. It would annoy the hell out of me lol

Our chihuahua's bark alot. They love to bark at people coming in and will only calm down if you speak to them and if they know you. If they don't know you and you speak, they'll still calm down but not as fast.

We have a small dog - a Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix that loves to bark. He barks at other male dogs, and at people passing by - especially if they're riding bikes or skating or running.
We also have a HUGE puppy - a boxer/hound dog mix - that is learning bad habits from our other dog. He mostly barks at people if they don't stop to pet him and say hi when he's out walking (on a leash). But his bark is so HUGE that it scares people.

Oh yes, they bark a lot at any strangers whether human or animals!!! There are two of them in my front gate and they serve as my security guards. Any stranger they sense coming closer to my gate, they will drive away in fear with their loud, powerful voice. Even stray dogs, cats, rates, frogs, or any alien that invade our surroundings get terrified with their rolling bark.. enough to make them run away as fast s they could. I would say they are excellent watchdogs!

I have 4 dogs and my oldest dog, a Blue Heeler/Cocker Spaniel mix, is a barker. I've also made him a house dog. He barks at just about anything; he barks at noises he hears outside, at dogs he sees out the window or dogs he hears barking outside, he barks when I come home, he barks when he needs to go outside, and he barks when my other dogs play and chase each other through the house. It's probably one of his ways to release built up energy. Fortunately he doesn't bark constantly.

My little dog is a horrible barker. It drives me crazy. I don't think it has anything to do with her being an inside dog. I have 3 other dogs that are inside with her and they look at her like "What are you barking for?? Are you crazy?" I don't know what to do to make her stop. It driving the whole house crazy. She is about to get the Dog Wisper call on her butt.

Check out the photo of my beagle Buster. he is not a barker at all. he and his breed are howlers. The neighbors are used to his howling and I try to keep it to a minimum most days. Buster barks ever so often at strangers and critters. But then he will howl after a couple barks. Dogs will bark at a starnger be it indoors or out actuaklly. They are letting them know, "This is my area don't mess with me."

My dog isnt a barker at people. She seldom barks at strangers but if someone she doesnt know and i havent greeted yet (or am unaware is in my yard) is there she will lay and growl at them.
Strange dogs are a totally different matter. She will bark and bark and growl at any dog coming near "her" space even if we are at the lake. She has to meet a dog 2 or 3 times in a "friend" situation before she wont bark at it.
