Do you save bones for soup, like ham bones, or chicken or pork bones ?

I have made five meals out of one whole chicken. I first bake it in the oven and we will have chicken meat one night. Then I boil the bones to get all the left on meat off. I will then make dumplings the next night. I can then make chicken and rice cassarole with some of the left over meat and juices. I usually freeze some of the left over meat and juices to have other nights of dumplings, chicken and rice soup or cassarole later in the month. I can also make chicken salad sandwiches some times with left over meat. I can feed a family of five 4-6 meals off one whole chicken.

I would love to swap some great dish ideas with you. I am always looking for great ideas to spice up the flavor in the kitchen without heating up the shopping bill. I have never heard of shepperd pie. I might have to see if we like that one.

yes i do that all the time. in fact, i'll go to the market and buy chicken or pork bones to make soup. it's really a good ingredient for soup making. the soup will taste so sweet with them. using bones means i can add the meat in the last minute. this ensures the meat is still tender but the soup is sweet nonetheless. perfect for a steaming hot bowl of soup.

Yea. The Chinese love doing that. My grandma does that too. She will use chicken/pork/fish bones and boil them in water for hours. After that she will remove the bones and add in the other ingredients she need for the soup. The soup always turn out very nice.

Yes I do save the chicken bones for making stock.Use the stock for making soup and also for the gravies for my other chicken dishes. The chicken dishes here are absolutely delicious, do try the recipes and videos.

Yes, I do. Ham bones make the best bean, pea and lentil soups ever, pork and chicken bones make a very good base for vegetable soup. If you roast chicken bones for a bit, they make a richer broth. I freeze broth for using later if I don't need it all at the time. Why throw out perfectly good food, then go and buy canned broth or bouillon cubes (concentrated broth)?

I have heard of people doing this too. I am not a big fan of soup and have never made homemade soup, so when I have a ham bone I toss it in the garbage.

I only save ham bones. I use them to make some ham and bean soup. My son hates it, so it is just me and my baby girl eating it unless someone else is over. It freezes well too.

No - we don't save bones, but we do freeze leftover vegetables that are too many to toss, but too few to reheat. We'll use them in vegetable soup when we have enough - either "stone" soup (meatless) or with hamburger or stew meat. I might just cut up a small steak to make the broth for the soup. It will still be good, with a little pasta thrown in for added texture. Mmmmmm. And plenty of herbs and spices.

Yes. My guy makes a lot of soups and the leftover ham and lamb bones make a great base for them. I've never heard of anyone saving chicken bones, though...

it is a very nice idea. aside from using it for different recipes, a chicken broth can also be use in cooking our rice. use the chicken broth as a substitute for the water. it makes the rice yummy and nutritious..
