Do you have a favorite charity? What do you donate to your charity? (Money, time and work, etc.) Why do you think that others should donate to your charity, too?

A lot of people feel that very same way, that they like to donate to charity if they believe in the cause and think that the charity will actually help those who need it. That is one of the questions that people ask - "How much will my donation help the organization, and how much will my donation actually help the people in need?" They want to make sure that when they give something, it is actually going out to help - and not just helping to keep the organization going... Thanks for your reply!

There are so many charities! And they always seem to need money. We get charity requests in the mail. We get charity requests over the telephone. We tend to pick the charities that have some personal attachment for us - the places we went to school, the disease research societies for diseases that have affected loved ones. We also volunteer, usually donating food for bake sales and things like that.

I donate to one charity called "God's Love We Deliver" they prepare and deliver nutritious, high-quality meals to people who, because of their illness are unable to provide or prepare meals for themselves, people who have AIDS/HIV, Cancer and other life-altering illnesses. It a wonderful organization.

That sounds like a worthy organization - one that does acts of charity and mercy to folks who are really in the worst of situations. Thanks for posting!

The Salvation Army would be the only charity that I donate to. I try to give away good clothes to them that I no longer need. Many of my kids clothes go here, when they have out grown them.. And when I no longer need them. I give them all to the Salvation Army because someone could use something that I used to have. No need to keep it in my home, when someone else could benefit from it.. I love giving away things that I no longer need or have a use for..

Supporting a worthy cause with your gently used items can be one way of helping an organization (such as the Salvation Army) to meet its goals. Thanks for your reply!

I am a volunteer for our local Red Cross chapter. I serve on the Disaster team and until I became involved I did not realize how much time and money it takes to help people out. We have had to open a shelter due to flooding several times in the last year and it does take a lot of time and effort, as well as finances to buy food to feed the people who have been displaced, to get the shelter set up and manned and then to take it all down and clean up afterwards. It would be nice if people would volunteer to serve on the Red Cross. It would not be such a burden for a few people if more people would help out.

Volunteering is a great way to support a charity. I suppose that with all of the recent flooding (and tornado activity, etc.), there is plenty of work that the Red Cross has undertaken. You are right about how surprising it is the amount of time and energy that it takes to get things done... and how volunteered manpower can be just as important as financial donations. Thanks for your reply!

My favorite charity is the Humane Society, and I do give to it by using live search's search and give charitable fund. I like this because every search I do, my charity gets a penny. This is a lot of fun when you have a lot to search, as you see the total ammount of money you have donated increase. I think people should have their own charity, but anyone who wants to donate to the Humane Society is helping animals in need. (I love dogs!)

There is another charity online that does something similar, something about rice, I think, where you do a puzzle or play a game and it donates rice to third world countries or something along those lines. As charities become more and more online savvy, they make it possible for more and more people to do things to make contributions (other than money). Good luck with the humane society! (And thanks for your reply!)
