I was astounded to see stats today that a huge percentage of Canadian and US citizens don't know the words to their national anthem. How can this be? I would dare to say that if you don't know it, you should learn it. It's embarrassing that more Canadians don't know it.

That is not good. I am all for globalism, but I still think one should know ones background. Knowing the history and culture of ones nation is part of that in my mind. Knowing the national anthem should be a given. Do people not learn it in school?

Not only do I know my national anthem, I know the Canadian one as well. Having been exposed to far too many hockey games, I learned it.
Personally, I prefer the Canadian one but I am still an American and know my national anthem. Of course I spent 3 years in the Army and have 2 boys in the Military, one Navy, one Air Force and love to go to concerts at West Point, The national anthem is just part of life, just like my having an AMerican flag on my van and flying one outside my house.

LOL, I'm the same, I sing both at hockey and baseball games when they play them both.

You must live close to the states, I am from Buffalo, as a kid we routinely went up to Canada and I had a hard time understanding that it was a foreign country. Other then the money, it seemed just like home.

I know my national anthem, and the kids in our local schools learn it as well, I believe. It needs to be taught, it is not an easy song. I am from the United States. I was privileged to work with a teacher who was very patriotic for the last three years. She taught the kids a whole unit of United States symbols and landmarks.

I think it's taught in school, so, I don't know why there are so many people who don't know it.

Everyone should know their national anthem by the tips of their tongues. We sing our national anthem during school assemblies everyday and was taught to stand still when the national anthem is being aired in the radio or in any place when we hear as a mark of patriotism. Thats how great and important our national anthem mean to us.

I know the national anthem for both Canadian and Us even though I'm a united states citizen.
I find the Canadian anthem catchy.
