Not as popular as other universities like Ateneo, La Salle, UP, UST but USM is one of the country's premiere destination for scientist wannabes. USM is located in Central Mindanao, around 150 kilometers from Davao City where Ateneo de Davao is. USM is an autonomous university offering curriculum from paramedical courses to veterinary medicines. I'm proud that I have also spent not less than 4 semesters from USM as Civil Engineering student. I have learned that USM's academic reputation is comparable to what UP has. It has a sprawling hundreds of hectares of research institute for agriculture, agro-chem, biotech, microbio and rubber tech. USM's academic excellence is Mindanao's pride. It caters around 7,000 each year in different disciplines. USM also encourages "Chrislam - Christian Islam" unification in the campus to prevent students from creating discrimination and faction. The school have long before opened the Institute of Asian Studies focusing on Asian Culture.
