I got an email from a friend, it says that if you forced to withdraw some money in your ATM card you just click the numbers of your password invers, that mean if your password was 1234 you just click 4321 and the ATM will send an emergency alarm to the bank who will tell the police that you are in danger and they will come to you immediatly.
I dont know if it is true or not, is there anyone have a same idea about that?

I've no idea if it's true or not, but my wife and I agree that it should be, as it'd be an excellent safeguard. Equally, it should make the ATM act as though you had entered the right code, but run very very slowly, as if it were having problems with your transaction, thus giving the police time to reach you.
I imagine the best people to check this with would be your bank.

A friend told me she'd heard about this and, unfortunately, had reason to find out. The police got there so fast, it was amazing! She was neither hurt nor robbed as a result!

Glad to see people had checked it out on Snopes. I was about to, but they saved me the time.
It does sound like a good idea though...

I've heard this several times, and each time I am informed that the information is just a hoax, a prank, whatever. It would be nice, with the technological advances we've made, if something like this could be implimented. Another form is that the reverse number spits out the "desired" amount, but inks it or something, than the money is traceable. This prevents the thief from taking your money out of your account, but stops him from getting away with it. The first time he tries to spend the money, the cashier alerts the police with a description and what-not. I think this version would be more plausible to accomplish.

Based on the responses here, i guess that is not true, but WISH IT IS because that is the best way, i think, to avoid negative things to happen to you when you use the ATM MACHINE. If you are being held up, OR if you are being forced to withdraw from your ATM, then, you know the SECRET WEAPON. PIN-IT...!!!! WOW! Wish we could send that INFO as a suggestion to the association of banks all over the world. COOL!

This is a hoax. It doesn't really work. this one has been going around for a couple of years now. An atm machine does not have a brain it cannot descern a wrong number from a reversed number.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I hope that it is. What a great idea!!! It would be nice to be able to send a secret alarm to the police if this were to ever happen. I wonder if tis works in ATM machines all over the world!

Hello alkurishy,
That is a good idea if it is true they have the system all over the world, but I don't you shoul go around telling people that other wise the wrong people will think of other ways to get victims to get money out.

That's a hoax that has been spreading all over the internet. I think there is a web site somewhere that explains about hoaxes. Anyway, my ATM pins are 1001 or 5005 or 8228
Do you think typing the pin in reverse still works for me?
