No beer allowed on festivals..?

Within a week I'm leaving for "Dour" a popular Belgian festival. I don't think most of you guys are familiar with it but to give an idea what kind of music festival it is, here some line ups: Tiga, Alter Ego, Pendulum, Wu-tang Clan, hatebreed, Mad Caddies, Roni Size and a lot more of course... For more check: http://www.dourfestival.be/fr/2008/lineup Anyway, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that we aren't allowed to bring beer cans to the festival. This is the first time I witness such thing on a belgian festival. So my question: how are things in America or other countries? Are you guys allowed to bring cans to the festival? Do you think this is a good cause for safety or do you think this is bullsh*t? Let me know. Greetz.
