To clip or not to clip coupons?

I was wondering how many people clip coupons and of those who do, do you use them. The reason I am asking is because the cost of groceries are going up and I definitely cut coupons; however, I rarely use them. I look at my list and only take the coupons that are relevant to my list because my mom warned me long ago about buying extra things just because you have a coupon. Anyway, I rarely use the coupons I cut because I usually find a cheaper alternative, either a generic brand or another brand on sale. Has anyone found that they have saved an enormous amount of money using coupons? Do you find yourself buying things you normally wouldn't simply because you have a coupon?

That's the same problem I run into so I don't use coupons very often unless it's for something that we definitely use. Most of the time the store brand is less expensive than the named brand, even with a coupon.
