Please do not forget that kittens grow up to be CATS, and puppies grow up to be DOGS. Adopting either is a life long commitment, the life of the animal, that is. They need food, water, training and veterinary care. Our city requires that both dogs and cats to be caged or on a lease whenever outside the owner's home. A securely fenced back yard may suffice for a dog, but cats will climb over. Some dogs will, too.
We had a climber once. As to preference, I prefer an adult cat. Kittens scratch the furniture, climb the curtains, etc. Our 3 year old neutered tom cat is just as cuddly as a kitten and already knows the house rules.
We can put down dry food and water, leave a clean litter box, and go away for 2 or 3 days with out worrying about him. I wouldn't leave him any longer unless someone could come in to clean the litter box and replenish his food and water. One could not do that with a dog. I like both cats and dogs, but cats are less trouble and usually their care costs less.

i like both...they are both cute...and anything baby is a handful, whether a pet or a human baby...babies are a lot of work...but the animal baby is still a lot easier than a human baby.

I like both as well. You have to see it both ways. Cats they use a litter box, witch you have to clean everyday or it stinks the house up. Dogs you have to walk them and oh yeah don't forget that poopy bag. Cats seem to stay a little more cleaner especially if they stay in doors. Dogs not so much. Both dogs and cats love to give you attention. But personal I would go with a dog. When you come home and see there happy little faces and jumping up and down. It really makes you smile even if you had a bad day. A cat on the other hand does not really care if you come home, they will come to you when they feel like it.

i am actually prefering cats at the moment, i have always liked dogs and thought i would never really like cats, i got my cat as i didnt have the time to take a dog out for walks etc and the kids wanted a pet so i thought a cat would be more suitable as they are pretty self sufficient.
I got my nemo from the rescue centre and he is an absolute diamond and i think i would rahter have cats that dogs anyday now.
saying that tho i would never have either a kitten or a puppy i always prefer to rehome an adult animal from a rescue shelter.

I prefer dogs. I had a cat one time and everytime I turned around he was walking around on the counters and clawing the couch. I could not get him to listen for nothing.

I would want to get a puppy rather than a kitten. Since puppies are less prone to biting. Haha. (Well, in my mind they are at least.) But sometimes there are adorable little kittens. My friend has one who doesn't bite or scratch and it's just adorable. It would cuddle up right next to you and everything. Too bad I'm allergic to fur though! So I can't keep them on me for too long. Allergies are a pain.

Kittens are a handful, they will destroy you home if not supervised, they need play things and a restricted space where they can use the cat box and have a scratching post.
However puppies need to be trained even where to potty, we have just gone thru that and I thought we would both give up and make our new dog a ranch outside dog instead of an inside dog. All is well now and we are very happy we stuck with it. Just remember that a dog needs exercise with
you or yours,(people that is) everyday or they get very frustrated and get bad habits. Good luck with whatever you choose. If it was me I'd have one of each since
that seems to have worked out well for us in the past.
