Just Another Day

... but it happens to be -
Happy Birthday to me!
Yep, 51 yrs old today, and feel every bit of it.
The day was rather uneventful, as birthdays aren't a big deal. I did make a cake, but it was only because I was planning on making brownies to take for a snack when we had to drive out of town today, but realized it was cake mix in the pantry and not brownie mix.
My husband made me this very pretty pendant with his very own hands. He's been doing vocational type work in the lapidary shop at the VA and makes pretty things out of slabs of marble and other types of rock.
I think this is a type of marble, I'm not sure (he tells me and I can't keep them all straight). Anyway, it started from a dull looking slab of something, which he cut, polished and then shaped into this pretty cabochon and mounted for me.
I'd much rather have something made or given from the heart than all the fancy flowers and bling bling in the world.
How about you?

Well happy birthday to you! At 51, you're still a pup.
The pendant your husband made sounds lovely. I used to dabble in jewelry making so can imagine how nice it must be. I agree with you about handmade things being more special than store bought. It's just more personal that way.

Happy Birthday! And you are just 51 years young. The pendant is pretty, and yes it is always nice to receive something someone made thinking of you. One of the nicest gifts I received was my husband took some pictures at a hot air balloon festival that we went to then printed the best ones and framed them for me.
They are still hanging in the hall, many years later. He has also painted many painting for me.
Flowers just wilt and die.

Honestly, I can't remember any birthdays of mine that were all that special, but I'm not complaining. I think the fact that Someone saw fit to give me life at all is pretty special, and I'm thankful for every day that I get after that.

hi ladyjarhead Happy Birthday I also love handmade gifts as they are so special and mean something to me. your gift sounds really'
pretty. Handicrafted things are one of a kind and that makes
it super special. anyone can just walk into a store and buy
something someone else made.but to craft something with your]
own hands, thats unique.

Yes, this gift was more special than something that could have been purchased. My husband is very new at this hobby and has been making some pretty nice things. I was very glad to get this gift.

Hi my friend, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I just turned 50 last month and I understand the part of feeling it. lol You sure don't look 50! You hold your age real well. :-)
That is sure a pretty pendant that your husband made for you. I would much rather have something handmade than some store bought item. It seems like it comes from the heart more.
Have a great Birthday!
Char

First of all Happy Birthday Ldyjarhead!!! I'll be 53 in November, so have a ways to go there.
I love making my own Native American based crafts myself, and do a bit of jewelry making but nothing like what your husband does, though maybe that's something for me to think about doing in the future. I think in the long run people always appreciate something one makes to be given as a gift....a lot more thought and time goes into the gift, and I just love seeing the expressions of my friends when I do give them a hand-crafted gift, they really do appreciate it.
Here's one of the beaded type earrings I make for people

Those earrings are gorgeous! I've never been able to wear anything that dangles, though, they just don't work with my shape face, I guess. Tom just started working with rocks and is doing very well for someone that didn't have a clue a month or so ago.

Well we're broke so it wouldn't really have been 'easy' for him, but I am so much happier to receive something like this than spending money on something that will be gone the next day.

Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a really great day. Celebrate! It's your very own special day! That pendant is absolutely gorgeous! Wow! Your husband is really creative!I agree with you about gifts. I would much rather receive something from the heart... be it something hand-made just for me or some kind words or actions. They mean so much more than anything you can buy (unless it's something that you really, really wanted in the first place).
I have a little something for your special day:

Yes, the pic is me, taken just about a year ago - must have been one of my good days! Actually, I was sitting with Tom and that was shortly before we were married, so I was one happy lady.

Can't believe you're 51...you look a lot younger than your age. Happy Birthday!!
You're so blessed to be celebrating your birthday with a loved one who remembers to give you a gift. It's not fancy but it's priceless huh!!
For me, every birthday is important. It's just fitting that you do something, even simple things, as long as you mark that day. '
Hope you have many more to come!

Happy Birthday. It seems like a very nice gift your husband gave to you. The time and the thought make that much more meaningful than him going to a store and just buying something. Especially if money is not an issue, meaning he could have easily just bought something. Plus it seems like something you like, it isn't like he made you a birdhouse or tool bench or something. Unless you are into those things that that would be ok too, Again, happy birthday.

LOL. Actually a birdhouse or toolbench would have been fine too. I'm not much on 'bling', but he does understand the things I like. He even picks me wildflowers, which I much prefer over a dozen roses.

Happy Birthday Marie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your necklace is absolutely beautiful. I agree wholeheartedly that soemthing made by hand is much more impressive.
My favorite gift ever was when my hubby went to the spa where I get my hair cut and looked through all their packages until he found one that included a hair cut and color and got me a spa certificate. It was cool because I knew he spent hours trying to find the right gift certificate and that he wanted me to be pampered.

Happy Birthday Ldy, woohoo, now you are as old as me! Yes I would much rather have something from the heart than store bought. My hubby asked me one year what I wanted for my Birthday, my answer, a letter, written by you. I got a beautiful letter, filled from the heart and was elated. Another thing I love is fresh flowers. No need to go to the florist or store, dandelions will do, as long as it looks like a flower, my little ones surprise me with their fresh picked treasures, and I always make over them like they cost a bundle, because to me they do. I hope you have the most blessed birthday ever. Hugs Marilyn

I was married to a man that just didn't 'get it' before. No matter that I said I wanted him to 'do' something for me, he insisted on buying roses and the chocolates that HE liked. It drove me nuts!
Tom gets it. He'll pick me wildflowers and they are more beautiful to me than the $50 bouquet from the flower shop.

Sorry I missed your birthday. Happy belated birthday. :-)
I would always prefer something handmade over something store bought, no matter how small the the item. Even homemade cards are better than anything you can get from the store. Knowing that someone took the time to make something means so much.
