i know that i have seen a lot of people that wear a ton of makeup their whole lives look like their skin seems to age quicker than those who dont.. do you think this is right or do you think that maybe they wear more makeup because there skin is aging bad already and they are trying to hide it? obviously sun ages your skin but it seems like no one thinks or worries about makeup doing the same..
do you think that make up can make your skin age faster? even if you use skin care products to fight aging?

I think that the aging process is more about genetics than anything. People of different ethnicities tend to age differently. Plus I think that where you live in the world and what you do in life increases the aging process. As an african american our skin tends to be thinker and wrinkle lesser than caucasin. Also we tend to not do a lot of tanning or sun bathing.

alot of makeup, without washing your face and taking care of it ages it. a lot of factors contribute to the ageing process. genetics for one. sun damage. sun damage is a major factor on the skin. you needto wear sunblock everyday.and make sure you clean your skin, and moisturize. using products designed for preventing the aging process.its not really true to say one skin color with age differently than the other. if you tan alot, you will age much much faster.

Regular makeup from traditional ingredients is bad for yoru skin as well as your health. Most makeups are talc based. Talc has been proven to cause cancer if it comes in contact with mucas membranes, like your eyes. Here are a couple links with information about harmful chemicals in cosmetics and other products.

I don't know where people are getting that darker skin stays younger looking. It depends on the person. My Mother is 79, but nobody ever guesses that. She has always looked years younger than she is. She is naturally blonde and very fair-skinned. My Dad was darker, with black hair; he did look 20 years younger than he was. I am a natural redhead, freckled and fair-skinned. I look lots younger than I am, too. I think it's mostly genetic.
I have a friend who is dark-skinned. She always wore tons of makeup. I went with her once to a department store where she spent a small fortune on makeup and creams, etc. The sales lady at the counter, dressed in her white lab coat (lol) said to me, "what kind of makeup do you wear. Your skin looks flawless." I said, I never wear makeup. Her eyes almost bugged out. Then she said I must be using some really good creams and cleansers. I said I used soap and water and Oil of Olay. lol No sales there! So she said, "Well, you may look good now, but by the time you're 40 you will have lots of wrinkles." I didn't. I don't now.
I never could stand the feel of makeup. It always felt nasty to me. Besides, with my freckles, liquids and powders make me look like I'm trying to hide my freckles...which I am not. I rather like having them.
The only thing I wish I would have done was wear sunblock earlier. I did end up with a small skin cancer on my forehead. I don't think makeup would have helped that, either! lol

i cant believe she said that!! and i wonder if it would have made the cancer worse since it would be chemicals right over it but then again i may just be ignorant in thinking that lol..

I think that makeup does make the skin age quicker. People who wear a lot of makeup every day end up having to wear makeup cuz they have to hide the effects of the makeup. But there are exceptions. There are many other factors that can make skin age quicker, especially a lot of exposure to the sun and/or tanning. that can really take a toll on skin.

i think one reason is the skin type, i knew people who does and does not use make up too much but still looks younger than their real age. i myself is using make up though i don't use much but i put it on everyday when going to somewhere else, but glad i still have a good skin that people sometimes mistaken me for my age. maybe we should choose the better brand of make up for our skin and the ones which really suits our skin. we can also ask for assistance from experts before buying and putting them on. i think the food and vitamins and other medicines we take do have an effect on our skin too. especially those of who drink and put on whitening ones. i think it is really much better to keep our skin natural.

hopefully they will find a way to make all makeup fight against aging since obviously people want to look beautiful if they are wearing it and not help worsen things

i believe that makeup can make you age faster. and if you ue skin care products it might help but sometimes it doesnt. and sometimes makeup can also mess your skin up. and when it does then you have no choice but to keep using the makeup. my mom is 44 and she has never used makeup a day in her life. she is the oldest of all of of siblings and she looks the youngest, all my auns war alot of makeup and they have to use it now because without it their skin has blemishes that will never go away.

Yes, i think wearing too much make-up makes our skin age faster. Having make-up on helps in our apperance but if we can do away with the foundation then it is better.Yes, some may be wearing make-up to hide inperfections but it is still better to go for the natural.

Yes make up in my opinion will make you skin age faster so many harsh chemicals in it along with skin care products to fight aging.

People with darker skin age more slowly. My skin is darker than average and has been oily all my life. I look 20 years younger than my real age.
Makeup dries out the skin and causes it to age more quickly. It looks from your picture that you have reddish hair and fair skin. You don't stand a chance.

I don't think that wearing makeup causes your skin to age more quickly. As has already been said above, genetics has a great deal to do with how we age as well as other physical characteristics. Environmental factors and habits affect our skin also. For example, sun exposure has an aging effect on the skin. Also, habits such as smoking ages the skin. When you see a woman wearing makeup who is also showing the effects of age, I don't think that you should jump to a cause and effect conclusion. You would need to have more information. In addition, today's makeup products can actually be helpful to the skin because a lot of foundations have a built in sunscreen to help protect against sun exposure.

yeah but the people that cake it on though? it has to clog the pore or do something which i would think after awhile would cause some kind of affect but i dunno maybe its just genetics and environmental
