The oldest text message stored in my cell phone is more than three years old... i was sent by a friend welcoming me back to the Philippines... after 2 years of working abroad... i don't have the heart to delete it... since it means so much to me... and it is a reminder that i love home more than i love working abroad...
This is one reason why i can not bear to part with my old cell phone... even though i already have a newer one... and i don't really use it that much... but eventually... i would have to let go... i can't keep the cell phone forever... i would have to give it away to a family member who needs it most... or sell it so i can use the money for something else...
So how old is the oldest text message in your cell phone?... why are you saving it till now?...

I changed phone 3 times but the sim card remains. The oldest text message stored in my phone was sent by a friend dated November 17, 2002. :D Here's the message, just wanna share:
LOVE
may take long
but it will always
take you to where you belong.
Enjoy the journey,
your heart will know..
when its finally
HOME.
Every time the heart's broken, I'd just read this old text. =)

Gawd, when I read that, I just teared up. But I don't think its for the same reason that you have for it. I know that I am just dumping on you, but this has to come out. Sometimes I feel, especially right now, that my heart doesn't have a home. I've tried so many different times, in so many different ways to find love, and it always ends up the same, sweeping up the pieces of my heart and trying to put them back together. I want to give up on love, I believe its not meant for me. But it will be a few months later and some guy will take an interest in me, and there my fool heart goes again. I don't know what to do, I don't want to continue this cycle, yet I don't want to be alone.....

Hello aseretdd,
The oldest that I have right now was the first message from my husband when he went back to his country. I think it was on 24th Dec, 2006. He told me how he missed me and our son so much though it was just a day living without us. I still have all the 'lovey dovey' messages that he sent to me while he was there for almost a year. I just can't delete them as they are very meaningful to me. When he came back, I showed him all the messages. He just smiled and told me how very emotional I could be sometimes. The best is that he even asked me whether is it true that he was such a romantic person when we were living separately that time. He should know the answer.

Well i think your husband needs your affirmation that he is indeed a romantic person... and you are too... since you kept all his text messages until now... it is hard to be away from ones family... that is why i can never leave my baby... even if the salary of working abroad is a lot higher than what i am making now... thanks for the response...

Oldest message on my phone is 15 days old... When I turn my phone off tonight & turn it back on, 15 days old messages will be deleted automatically... All the messages on my phone including emails are set to be deleted automatically after 15 days... I have it set up so that it gets deleted automatically after 15 days... When I come home, I do download my emails to my computer as well so I have a record of it... I have text messaging set up the same way...

I don't really keep text messages. In fact last night I ended up deleting all the messages I had on my phone. I only had about 10 or so messages on there and none of them were that important. I think the oldest one on there was only a few weeks old. Maybe a month old.

It really depends on one's preference... in my case... i am a little sentimental... so i don't easily delete personal messages from friends... especially the greetings... so my inbox would end up with hundreds of messages... some i delete when it becomes to full to accept new ones... thanks for the resposne...

My messages in my cellphone can be really old. As there are some important and sweet messages from my husband at that time. And since I use a smartphone, and I can store as many as messages I want and the size is pretty small.
I love China

The date of the last text is 06/07/08 which was 5 days ago. I text a lot, so my inbox gets full every week and then I delete all the texts to make room for old ones. I never save old texts, because I am not a sentimental person and if there is anything there that I need to remember (eg date of a party) then I put it in the calender or a memo.
I really cannot believe that you have still got a text for three days.

The oldest text message I have on my phone is the roaming confirmation from my old network back home. I had to keep it there because I might need the information later when I switch it off upon going home.

I have never done that... since it was like three years ago when i went abroad for a short vacation... but my husband also kept the roaming confirmation message... because he currently works aboard... that always comes in handy when he goes home and needs to turn the roaming feature off... thanks for the response...

The oldest one I have is a little over a year old, from when I was returning to the States from a study abroad program in Japan. My parents sent me a text welcoming me home, which I got as soon as I turned on my phone as I got off of the plane.

I dont have any text messages on my phone actually! My phone automatically erased text messages every 24 hours. I wish it didnt do that and I keep forgetting to change it, so I think I might do that right now. But on my old cellphone I had a 3 month old text from my ex-boyfriend, I dont know why I kept it, It was always just there.

I didn't know that cell phones have an automatic delete feature... i think i will check mine if it can do that... but i don't think i will active it... well... maybe you still have feeling for your ex boyfriend... or there is not clear closure yet in your relationship that is why you can't bring yourself to erase those messages just yet... thanks for the response...

I had a cell phone from the year 2002. So it is now nearly 7 years for the phone. But unfortunately about 6 months back a robber broke into the house at night and ran away with both mine and my son's cell phones. I had to replace them at a cost of about USD 300. I needed to buy new ones because I cannot afford to lose my contacts.
But unfortunately though I was able to get a new SIM card with the former phone numbers, all messages and contact lists were deleted. So the oldest text message in my phone is not so old. But the message is not a good one. It is a big embarrassment to reveal it here. But now that I have come half way doing it I will reproduce it exactly as it is in my inbox.

Shame, Shame, I had to reveal this to everyone at mylot. But now I am a VIP customer and they don't disconnect for exceeding my credit limit.

The oldest saved text in my phone is nine months old. Its from a guy that I like even to this day, although I just told him that I can't see him anymore because its too painful. Anyway, the text is just a simple question, "U lov me still?" What happened was we had a pregnancy scare, but found out the symptoms that I was having was because of fibroid tumors, and I would never be able to have kids again. I didn't want anymore at the time, but I was depressed because I wanted it to be my choice, not forced upon me. I guess he didn't understand that, because after we found this out he disappeared on me for like a month. I ranted and raved through text to him, and he wouldn't call or answer me. Finally, after so long, I called him for a favor and he did come to see me. We spent a little time together, and talked things over. He asked what really was the situation and did I want to be pregnant by him. I told him no, at least not right now, but I wanted it to be my choice not to have kids. Finally he dropped me off back at the house, and when he left he texted me this message. After I answered by telling him that love can't just be shut off like a switch, I saved the text because I thought it was cute. I should delete it now, its painful to look at because I know with his mentality we can't be together like I want to be. But I can't bring myself to do it. Part of me hopes that he will wake up and realize what he has lost in me, but its doubtful. I don't know what I will do with this text, or the others that I have saved, but I can't bring myself to delete them, not right now.

Here in the USA we with some cell services you pay extra for texting so I will not do that. I have roll over minutes that I do not use for voice use so I will continue to talk on my phone.

Oh, that is funny. You just reminded me I think I still have an obscene call on one of my old cell phones. I used my cell phone as a recording device to save the call for a college as it was left on his office phone. It was a nasty thing and I saved it to use as evidence just in case the student committed some act of violence, such as she threatened in the call -- but ewwwwie, what a potty mouth that girl had. I did recognize her voice too, as she was a student whom I had had a few words with myself. We have been retired a few years now, so I can get rid of that kind of stuff.

Oh my... some students can be very mean... especially the college girls... i had my mean moments when i was one... but never against a teacher... but it was wise of you to keep an evidence just in case... i bet that sometimes make you laugh whenever you listen to it... thanks for the response...

I don't listen to it, but after many years I can remember almost word for word what she said, as it was so deranged. Some student might be able to leave an obscenity laced call on an answering machine in a manner that after time could seem laughable, but truly in this case the language and tone were so hideous and the threat so real that to this day it is still not a bit amusing. It was scary, not funny. It is scary that people like that are running around loose.
