What kd of activities do children really enjoy doing. I watch my son and he enjoys any activity that does not look like learning that is with books. He enjoys skating and just being outdoors so I create fun activities that will help him to learn so we do a lot of naming of birds and other animals also plants. Sometimes we watch the plants and animals around us and just look at how each depend on the environment. He loves that then we discuss these. Quite educational and fun. What are some activities that you do with your kids that are educational but are so disguised that they look like just fun stuff?

We used to go on 'mystery tours' which were basically nature walks and collected odds and ends which could be made into collages on rainy days. Things like floating/sinking experiments; making parachutes for teddies or other small toys from different materials; rolling/sliding different shaped objects; measuring (eg your stride) with small toys ...'I can step 20 metal cars...'; building different structures from different materials; how far can you run in x seconds or how many seconds does it take to...; learning to catch/throw for hand/eye co-ordination skills; crayon rubbings; getting licence plate numbers and adding the digits (highest score after 5 cars wins); drawing a numbered snake or ladder with chalk - child stands on given number or on the answer to a simple sum; or collect a given number of (eg pebbles/ fircones) to place on numbers; treasure hunts with either written or picture clues.... Have fun!!
