Hi mylotters,I have not been on line for awhile My friend has had one of her children ill. They are my adopted grandchildren the little girl is 8yrs old today she has been having Fits constantly since Tuesday thats 4 days and the hospital are just starting tests today! How slow are they, the fits are constant every 8 to 12min and lasting between 15 to 25min. She is having them around the clock no break? Her parents are taking it in turns to watch her through the night? The hospital sent her home after seing her for twenty min?????? She is going back today as there is no change her parents where told to vidio the fits so they could see what was happening.I think this is a long time to wait before doing test? What do you think? I will keep you updated on her development.Has anyone been in this position or know why this is happening? She is a healthy child Plays for the local football team, does loads of sports and has not been ill?

Could she have Epilepsy?? She didn't need to be sent home and video taped, she needed to be checked into the hospital and taken care of.. What kind of doctors would send a child home in this condition.. I am so sorry for this child, I do hope she starts doing better and the doctors find out what is wrong with her.. Take care and do let us know what they find out..

I'm so sorry to hear about her illness.
I hope they find out whats causing these fits, and soon.
You said that she plays football, do you think she may have suffered a concussion that nobody knows about.
In any event i'll be praying for a good outcome to this situation.

Could your friend's little girl be having epileptic seizures? Has she been seen by a specialist? This problem sounds so dangerous and scarey. Hospitals are so anxious to get people out of the hospital. Sick or not, people are sent home everyday. It's my understanding the insurance companies are behind all this and I do not agree with their decisions. Am so sorry to hear this is happening. I will say a little prayer and hope doctors find out what is the problem and are able to get her back to a normal lifestyle. Poor little girl.

The doctors have only just started the tests today they didnt believe the mother saying the fits were so frequent and just carrying on and on? She now has to video the child all the time? Maybe they will find out how to treat her very soon? She was fitting when they saw her! I would have thought they could have diagnosed then if it was epileptic seizures, NHS rubbish. Thanks for your prayers.

I don't think I would have stayed at home - I would have kicked up a fuss and made sure that any necessary tests were done there and then Pat but that is easy for me to say when I am not right in the middle of the situation! There are a lot of causes for children having fits but this does not fit with febrile convulsions which are the most common thing. A child having continuos fits like that sounds serious and I will be praying for your adopted grandaughter that she will come through this soon, and healthy! Hugs and prayers sweetheart! xxx

I would have been in a prison cell by now if they treated my child that way Pat! Maybe some kids will pretend to be ill - we all know that is a fact but no child could feign fits that often or for so long! My son was in hospital for 5 days about 6 years ago , he was being sick constantly and had the most terrible headaches, the doctors gave up and referred him to a child psychologist whose first question was did I have migraine, to which the answer was yes! She had diagnosed him based on a family health history and his symptoms within quarter of an hour. He was suffering from a condition called cvs which was related to migraine , he got medication which helped immenssely! Please do let me know how things go when you find out sweety - I am still keeping her in my prayers! Hugs xxx

Oh Pat sweety at least now they know what it is and have a good idea how to treat it! I hope the treatment is effective and starts to help her soon. I still cannot believe the way her and her parents were treated by the hospital - I would definitely put in an official complaint! Hugs xxxx

all tests show epilepsy affecting the left side of the brain, so she fits to the right and you can catch her now you know which way she will fall. Her meds have started but no change yet they will increase the amount weekly so I hope Its not to long befor it works. All the prayers from every one helped her through all the tests. Thank you Pat xxxx

Hi Gollywog! I am so sorry to hear that. Oh that is so sad and I hope that things will get better soon. I hope the doctor will soon see what is making her have fits. I really feel sad when I hear about children suffering. I hope and pray that whatever her condition is will be treated soon. Hang on and keep up your faith my friend. I really have no idea what may cause her fits.
Take care and God Bless!

I am sorry to hear about your adopted grandchild it must be a really worrying time for you. To me all children should be seen to immediately because they can take ill so fast, but I knew of someone who went through something similar and the hospital took their time dealing with that child too.
Not because they were not interested, but simply because it is not unknown for children to go through stages of fitting at certain ages. Also illnesses and temperatures can cause fitting. If the parents have video of it happening and how long and how often this will help them more to determine what is causing it. I hope that it is sorted out for you all soon xx

I could not imagine being put in that situation with my kids. I do believe the hospital should not be so slow in trying to find out what is going on with this child. They should be working as fast as possible to figure it out so they can cure her.

I'm starting to completely lose confidence in the medical profession. It does seem stupid that they would send her home and tell her mom to watch her 24 hrs a day. What
good is that going to do and how do they expect her to do that? She has to sleep sometimes. I feel sorry for the little girl too. I'm sure it must be a scary thing for someone her age to go through.

DO you mean Grand Mal seizure - if they are lasting 15 to 20 minutes and she is turning blue she is not getting oxygen!n This can lead to brain damage.
SHe should be put in the hospital and given IV Valium or a similar med to stop the seizures. Is she losing consciousness then regaining...give us more info.
And get her back to a doctor.

What do you mean when you say fits? Do you mean seizures?
I am not sure if you mean a temper fit, I do not know what causes a girl start doing something like that. If it is a seizure then the girl needs to be looked at before now. I wonder what is going on with the girl. If she is in sports she may have hit her head.
Good luck to all involved

You are right. It sure is terrible that these parents have to go through all this worry with their little girl. I am so sorry for them. I am wondering if she got hit in the head doing some of her sports.
Good luck to them

I really hope they get some answers from the tests. Slackers for not starting them sooner.
She could be having these seizures for many reasons. She could be stressed, have an infection in the brain or has developed epilepsy or another seizure prone condition.
Keep us updated, and I hope that the little girl can get back to a normal life very quickly.

Lets hope then the medications are working. It can still take a while for them to find the right ones and the right dose, but as long as she is ok and happy in herself, she will be just fine.

hi gollywog glad that tjhey are taping the episodes so that the doctors can see just what is going on. children do go through this attimes when they are ill with some infection, and also if
she is active in sports theres always the danger of spinal menigitis so they should really be watching her very carefully
the doctors should be running tests for menigitis and other such things, as some types of menigitis are severe on normally healthy kids. good luck and God bless you and your friends

I am not a doctor, or even a nurse. They will be testing her, I am pretty sure, for epilepsy, and they will check her blood to see if the minerals are out of balance, or the sugars. If it was one of those two things, the minerals (electrolytes) or sugars, it might have resolved itself in the few days. If her heart rate etc. are okay, then she is not in danger, and hurrying the tests would not help.I know it is hard on the parents, but videos will help the doctors to determine which tests will do the most good. It could also be an injury, caused by some sports accident. It could even be from an insect bite. I hope you keep in touch with us, and let us know what is determined. My husband had what looked like a seizure in the middle of May, he had some tests, and still is waiting to see a neurologist. By the time he finally gets his appointment, it will have been ten weeks. I know, we all want answers now.

Hi Gollywog, That does seem like a very long time to have to wait, especially for a child. Has your medical care system been been going downhill recently? We had a terrific system in Canada, but I'm hearing of some problems recently. I hope it can be resolved soon. I don't think the present government want to put the money into it that is required to fix the problems. Please keep us informed as to how this little girl is doing? Blessings.

Thank you Pose for your Blessings, The NHS here in the UK has always been in trouble no money, short staffed, long waiting lists for surgery and so on! Children should always be priority they should never have to suffer? When I have news I will post thank you

Hello Gollwog,
That is so awful, poor thing, what kind of hospital you got there its disgusting, they should have kept her in to monitor her not the parents? the fit could trigger of if she is very stress about someting, because I have a friend who does that when she is stressed out, it something to do with her brain cells. I hope she will be o.k.

Well not a very good one? Her GP was no better when he saw her tuesday he told her mother just to watch her for twenty four hrs? I told her mum to take her back or to Hospital as she was having the fits so much in one day. They took her to hospital but were sent home to monitor her and go back for tests? They are doing test today! I hope to hear later tonight.Thank you
