Relationships are important to everyone of us. Our relationships begin with our family members and as we grow and develop we form new relationships however our home relationships prepare us for others we form as we traverse this life on earth. Some relationships are more serious than others and they differ to each other. Parent/child relationship is different to husband/wife, friends, siblings etc. We are the ones who determine what types of relationships we form and with whom.

I always say that my relationship with my father prepared me and set my expectations for what to expect from male/female relationships. My father (of course) always treated me like I was special. He opened doors for me. He was my provider & protector. He took me to fine restaurants and taught me so many things. As a result, I know what qualities I do and don't want in a man. I don't expect a man to ever be able to live up to the image I have of my father, but he definitely set the tone for what my likes and dislikes are. My mother taught me many things about being a mom as well as being a wife/lover. I feel even my grandparents shaped who I am and what type of relationships I have with others, be it husband, friend, co-worker, stranger whatever. These are the people who showed me by example what a person of integrity, and compassion should be like.

Welcome to myLot!
You are so right about relationships. I also noticed that my relationship with my mom, got even stronger once I became a mom!!! I guess we really worked on it because she did not have a good relationship with her mom. I am hoping I am able to share this with my daughters when they get older.
