Rat-a-tat-a-tat

Downy Wood[ecker - I think that is the variety of this one.
He wakes me up often early mornings.

Who the heck was knocking at my door at about 8 a.m. I was wondering? Well I got dressed to take a peek out the window. Nothing there at all. So I sat outside with my coffee after the annoying noise at my door. So I thought it was my door. As I sat in my chair sipping my hot coffee I hear it again. RAT-A--TAT-TAT!! Well I looked up in my Red Maple. There was this Downy Woodpecker feasting away on the bugs in a broken limb of the tree. I yelled, whistled, and stomped the deck and it stayed firmly at it's dinner table. ASfter a few times trying to scare it off I grabbed my camera. This is him eating/pecking away at the tiny incects in the tree branches. Do you have woodpeckers imn your area? Do they wake you up with the rat-a-tat-ting at all? I am getting a few suet feeders next year for the various birds such as this one to feed on next year. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

We have a few in our area as well, but I can never get a good shot of them as they are way too high up. They don't wake me in the mornings which is a good thing.

How annoying--- and yes we get them from time to time. Man they are loud- but amazing too. I don’t usually try to scare them away- I enjoy them for a bit…. Then I turn the fan on or the tv up and drown them out. Funny that you thought someone was at the door

You sure do have lots of activity in your garden. We have our local bird here that nests in our roof and they carry tons of pine leaves when building their nests.
