is it right that "writing" is greatly undervalued in most language lessons?

Schools should teach creative writting, because not only will students be able to express themselves but they can also practice all the English that they learned.
Thye probably don't because someone says they can't write and so no one else can! *blah*

Hi SutanHartanto,
At Sekolah Dasar, as i remember, my teachers decided of what subject that we gonna make to write as a home work, then after the teacher check it, Back to us( student) there is a lot of cross and circle here and there in my paper and the score. I don't understand why because she never explain why she make circle and cross at my words.
I think she keep her knowledge by her self. Then all i do is "ngawur"(spread a random shot)at the writing homework."ever since" Hehehe!
Good to see you discussion

hi keep_onwatch,
it is great that (creative) writing took a major art in your study. when i studied, the teachers didn't likely encourage their student to learn creative writing or composing skill well. i don't think if the teachers considers the skill is the important part of language lessons. thx for responding

It depends on what you mean by writing. I think as computers, e-mail, IMs and texting becomes more prevalent, the actual physical act of writing is being short changed. Teachers don't put as much emphasis on handwriting as they used to and that shows up when people have to actually write something down on paper with a pen.

hello friend,it is a interesting question.I think it is right. Now, i think many school has ignored the writting practice on the students.I have seen the report on a websit said even though some students have got a high education academic qualification on many subjects. They can speak english very well. But they are all weak in written english.is it nornal? or there is something we need to consider to adjust our education rule?
happy every day.

hi successlog,
yes, you are right. there is something we need to consider to adjust our curriculum. the other important part is the teacher. i think a language teacher must be able to do creative writing. he/she have to like, even love writing or composing. well, that's just imho. thx for responding

Personally, I love to write and always have. I have a very vivid imagination and writing is a good way to express yourself. I think school should focus a lot more on creative writing, moreso than book reports and note taking.

I want to start a creative writting class where myself and others can learn from each other about writting. The use of descriptive words and so on and so forth. I think just learning the skill is important, that way you can express yourself better.
