Every Christmas, I would get a book in my Christmas stocking. It would be one of the childrens classics and it would have cost 2/6d (pre-decimal ... equivalent to 12.5p or about $0.25). I had the Louisa M Alcott series; What Katy Did etc etc. I still have some of them on my bookshelf now.

We didn't have a television when I was growing up so I remember a lot of books. We went to the library at least once each week. I read Anne of Green Gables, Amelia Bedelia and many of the different Enid Blyton series. When I was little I loved the Little Noddy books.

That one isn't ringing a bell. Now that I have children I'll be checking out some of those old books and hoping that the library here has some of the old classic children's literature. I have my own copy of Anne of Green Gables and just bought my daughter a copy of her own (she'll be two at the end of the month, but I figure she'll grow into it)!

I read Bobsey Twins, Enid Blyton's, Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew too. I was a regular in the school library, and the librarian would call out to me if there were new titles to lend me. These books did inspire my love for reading when I was a kid.
