Is your best friend more like a sister?

I used to have a best friend who was
really more like a sister. We would
finish each others sentences and laugh
for hours over the silliest things.
She taught me to loosen up and not
take life so seriously.
Sometimes, I really miss her.
We haven't spoken since high school.
I don't even know where she lives.
Does your best friend feel more like a big sister
or big brother?
What's the greatest lesson you've ever learned
from a friend?

My best friend is more like a mom or an aunt. She is older than me, and actually has a child my age, but oddly enough we're the best of friends. She can be a bit maternal sometimes with me and my kids, but at the same time she doesn't try to tell me how to run my life. She teaches me things on a daily basis, mostly because I constantly go to her for advice on just about everything from cooking to doing my hair and nails.

Besides my husband, my best friend IS my sister! We've always been close, and we still are, even though we live over 1000 miles apart.
Growing up, my best friend went to family reunions with us, and was treated like a sister by all of my siblings, and I was treated like a sister to her siblings. We were always together. Since I moved away, I still talk to her some, but not very often anymore.

My best friends is a bit like a sister and I know she will always be there for me sweeety! It is really weird but I don't think either of us could offend the other even if we tried! I have learned so much from friends throughout my life I can't really think what eh greatest lesson is - unless it is to ask for help , or even to allow others to see you need help when you do! xxx

I know how difficult that is beauty! At one point I was only managing to cling on to the edge of my health and sanity by my fingernails and I still found it very hard to let go ... when I did life started to get a lot easier and more fulfilling for the whole family! Thanks for Best Response, Hugs xxx

After the baby was born, I had to learn to
be so self sufficient. Now I realize that I don't
have to be so. It's tough letting go.

I don't have a real best friend at the moment. And I REALLY wish I did. I had a best friend in high school and she was very much like a sister to me, in all ways. After high school our lives took us in different directions and though we are still in touch we have never made it back to being as close as we were.

Hi friend,
For me my best friend is just like my sister. She has more paitence to listen to my words. She even teached me computer when i don't know it.Sometimes i go in wrong direction she corrects me by saying the advantegous and disadvantegous of the things i do.The lesson i learnt from my friend is how to lead a systematic life which i can't forget till my last breath.
Have a nice day.

That was sweet of her to teach you how
to use the computer.
Computer skills are very valuable and make a person
highly employable in good paying jobs!

I know that a lot of people say that there best friend is their fiance or husband but my best friend really is my fiance. I used to have a very good friend that I would call my best friend but our friendship was strained and now I really don't talk to he. She has tried to call a few times but I have ignored her calls but I am not sure whether she wants to be nice or mean, and that's kind of sad. What's worse is that it's almost not her fault for our friendship to have strained but rather another one of our friend's faults.
My fiance is my best friend though and I really love him for that. I can go to him with anything and he listens to me and gives me his opinion. He is my best friend, my confidant and my fiance. I appreciate you making this discussion and I hope that you have very lovely day!

It's wonderful to hear that he's your best friend!
You really couldn't ask for better in a relationship
or marriage than to marry your best friend.
It's the best of all worlds when you can be
engaged or married to someone who is also your best
friend.
You are very lucky!
Thanks for posting.

It would be pretty hard for my best friend to be just like a sister, since he is male! haha He's a little too old to be just like a brother, and it would be kinda sick if I said he was like a father (no way, don't EVEN go tere!!!), but whatever he is, he's something special to me with a role of his own, unlike anything else.

Since my best friend is a guy, I think he might be a little put out if I said he was like a sister to me. However, he is like a brother... I know I can turn to him for anything and he is a great influence in my life. The same goes for him though, with me. We're so similar in our train of thought and our beliefs sometimes, that it's uncanny.
Brightest Blessings.

hehe My best friend is my youngest sister. When we lived in the same city, I moved away, we were always together. She and I knew each other so well we could finish each other's sentences before we spoke them. But then we have known each other all of our lives so we should be able to. My husband used to get very jealous of our friendship but he never said too much about it, because he knew it would just be a fight between us because I was not about to drop her as my best friend or as my sister. So he finally just accepted it. But her husband didn't. He hated that we were together so much that he finally gave her an ultimatum that she either quit hanging with me or he was gone. So he left and they are now divorced and she is with a new guy that thinks it is cool that we are so close. The way we should be since we are sisters too, not just friends.

I have 2 best friends that are more like sisters to me than just friends. The first one, I have known since the 2nd grade & the other I have known for about 10 years. I honestly can't remember the greatest lesson I have learnt from them but I can tell you that I love them dearly.

I do not have a best friend, the last time I had a best friend was a couple of years ago now, but she has moved away and as a result we have lost that bond and regular contact.
I had another friend after her, but that was the biggest disaster ever, and so although I am going to sound really cynical now I am going to have to say that the greatest lesson I learned from her as a "friend" is never trust them! Not completely anyway!

Really? That is a sad lesson, indeed!
She must not have been a real friend.

I have a best friend way back in high school. We laugh together, cry together, we share almost everything we have. She's more like a big sister to me than my real sister. She was a year older than me. And I really thank her for being the bridge for me and my husband to meet. I married her younger brother.
But I have this BOF (best online friend) who've become like a big brother to me (hey my BOF don't get mad.LOL). We've become open to each other. Every night we see to it that we talk. We share each others happiness and ups and downs.
Keep posting. HUGZ!

Yes, I had a very good friend who was just like a sister to me. I just miss her a lot because she lives in the U.S. now being a nurse. I am quite sad about our friendship because she suddenly lost contact with me. She used to send me letters & cards before especially on special occasions and vice versa, but for a year now she kinda MIA (missing in action) in our long distance friendship. I never stopped sending her cards and photos though because she is the godmother of my youngest child.
It is her birthday today and I'm so happy that you give me the chance to open up the topic thru your post. I really miss her a lot (Joan), and I hope I just could hear from her once again. I don't know if I'll continue sending her stuffs because I'm a little bit confused: whether she still considers me as a good friend or not anymore (but this is for no reason at all!) I didn't send her letters anymore, only pictures of her god-daughter just to keep us in touch, in some way.
What I learn from our friendship is the fact that it's so difficult to let go of a very dear friend especially if she's gone...

ABSOLUTELY YES! We've been BESTFRIENDS since pre-school days and almost 20 yrs later we still are. We are more than friends and be considerd more like BLOOD BROTHERS! We share a lot in common but we still compliment with each others differences. The lesson I've learn from him is... BELIEVING IN MYSELF! Having confidence. I used to be timid and shy, can never say what my mind wants to say... but HE BELIEVES IN ME... and told me something which I could never forget! "NO ONE WILL EVER BELIEVE IN YOU... If you will not start believing in YOURSELF first... I may not be always here pushing you forward, better start pulling yourself up!" I am now the extreme opposite of ME BEFORE! Thanks to him.

I have one best friend. We've known each other since we were kids and basically tell each other anything and everything without being scared that one might offend the other. She's more like a sister, in fact we're closer with each other than with our respective sisters. She now lives in Canada and I'm here in the US but we speak on the phone and almost everyday.
The greatest lesson I learned from a friend is the importance of true friendship. When you got a best friend, you will realize how lucky you are because you will understand the depths of sincerity, love, concern and respects that you are experiencing and enjoying. You feel blessed by it especially that it is very hard to find one true friend.

Hi,
My best friend is actually my sister-in-law.
Sometimes that is good and sometimes it isn't. lol When she comes to town, we are as thick as thieves. We laugh and talk and be silly and stupid.. We are totally ridiculous. We have told each other all of our intermost secrets. We are closer than any real sisters can be. The reason it can be bad is when my hubby (her brother) gets all jealous when we three get together like at a restaurant. Most of the time he wants to get a separate table because he says we embarrass him.. That boy just doesn't know how to have fun. lol
I miss her so much. I don't get to see her that much since she lives in Florida and I live in Illinois.
Have a nice night,
Char
