Descartes said "I think, therefore I am." (Cogito ergo sum) I would like to sum up my materialist worldview with a correct Latin translation of "I neurotransmit, therefore I am." I believe this would be "Neurotransmitto ergo sum." (neuro is a Greek root, but transmit is a Latin root...that's good enough). I would also like a translation that doesn't refer to I or the self for neurotransmission, that materialistic neurotransmission occurs...therefore I am...conveying that the chemical process creates the thought of self. This would be something like "neurotransmittum ergo sum". I don't know enough about Latin to be sure of my use of an online Latin dictionary.

As far as criticizing consciousness, I see where you are coming from... when I first learned brain chemistry I was all over trying to explain away the soul. But I like Descartes' quote, it's a concise yet compelling argument for existence. So why mess with a good thing?

Well, why bother messing with a bad thing? I also was very impressed with Descartes' quote when I was in college, and for the many years since. So when I wanted to sum up my materialistic worldview, I modestly decided to improve on the best! Thanks for looking up my diccussion, and big thanks for the "Welcome to MyLot".
