They say that there are more than a hundred words added to the Webster's Dictionary. What can you say about this? Do you think it is a good thing they did?

I am not really sure how often they update Webster's Dictionary. But I am sure that when there are significant number of words commonly used or are in fashion that are not yet in the dictionary, they will collate it and announce for a release of a new or updated version. This addition of words to the dictionary is a good thing because words like anyother things are evolving. As times pass by there are things or words that are not anymore applicable to the present world. Words that are not anymore used should not also be taken out from the pages of the dictionary so that we can have a trail or history of those words for the next generation to come.

At least the dictionary is being updated. It really shows how things keep on changing.

Every year there are new words added to the dictionary. 2006 was the bi-centenial year for M-W and below is a link to some of the words that were 'new' back then! http://www.merriam-webster.com/info/reform-glossary.htm It is amazing to see some words like 'chowder' were NEW words. Really cool. Great question Zelo

That's interesting. I didn't know that! I would be interested in finding out what some of the new words are. I wonder if most of them are slang words.

Of course the dictionary has to change, our culture changes and words are constantly being added. One of the words last year or the year before was 'bling'. Personally that is a trendy word that will go away. But how else can a dictionary keep up with technology or medicine if words are not added? There is no choice --- not that many years ago email did not exist. Look at it today- should a dictionary ignore the fact that email exists by not adding the word?
