I suppose for a straightforward birth it would be fine. But what about all the medical procedures involved and how does the midwife cope with giving injections etc? I would probably try it if my GP recommended it.

I personally have not (I don't have children yet) but I was there for my cousin's water birth. It was not at all what I expected. You hear all of these horror stories about the pain and the blood and gore, and it wasn't really like that. I'm sure giving birth hurts-it's not a cake walk-but my cousin said it was actually kind of relaxing, considering what was happening. We kept the water warm and had one of the portable bathtub jet "things" going when she wanted it on, and the clean-up afterwards was pretty easy. She had her son at home (using a midwife) and a lot of the family/close friends were there. (My job was holding the stainless steel bowl for the placenta-how's that for responsibility? I did well, if I say so myself! :)

well i personally havent.. but i would be willing to try. only becuase ive heard that it can be very soothing to the mother and help with some of the pain. ive had 2 boys the "good ol fashioned way" my first without any meds and my second with an epideral.. and it still hurt real bad . lol.. so for # 3.. id be willing to try something new if its something my doc was familiar with!

I have not had a waterbirth. I was induced with my son after I stoppped progressing & it would've been nice because warm baths & showres had been so relaxing while I was pregnant.
My daughter was born by emergency c-section, so I wasn't given a choice on this or that.
And after this go around I'm getting my tubes tied, and from what i've heard, I'll most likely have another c-section since they're going to tie my tubes & remove an ovarian cyst that just won't go away on it's own.
But a water birth does sound like something I would have liked to try.

I haven't given birth ever... lol I have heard of water births, but have never really known anything about them... the disadvantages or the advantages are a mystery to me... hmmm
Right now i would say no to a water birth, but maybe it is something i should research more...

I know this was posted a month ago, but I posted a topic on water births today and yours came up in similar discussions...
I plan on having a water birth this time around... I am due sometime in August... I just need to find a midwife I am comfortable with, or decide if I want to go to a birthing center instead. I live in a small town though, so not many of them are very close by. Most people I know have never heard of a water birth, so a lot have tried to discourage me from it, but I know it is what I want.
For the first child you give birth too, it may be a good idea to try a hospital and see how it goes for you, because it can be scary... but then if everything goes okay I see no reason why a water birth would not be successful. I do know a family who had all of their children born at home in a tub. They said they would never change it for the world.
Are you planning on having a water birth or have you? Do you have children or are you pregnant at this time?
Some of the reasons that I want a water birth are discussed in the topic I just posted if you are interested. I hope this information has helped!
