why do people order double cheeseburger, large fries, and then a DIET coke?

Some people may prefer the taste of diet soda. Others may do it out of habit. Still others may do it to cut down on the overall calories and/or sugar of the meal-- they want the cheeseburger and fries, but need something to wash it all down with. Just my guesses.... Personally, I don't really eat fast food, and I only drink "odd" sodas (Steaz and such).

It is funny but I must admit I have done so. I guess it just makes you feel better when your consuming thousands of calories to know that your diet soda isn't adding to the amount.

Some people actually prefer the taste of diet soda. They don't order it to cut calories, they just like it. Others are diabetic and can't have the sugar. Although that one doesn't make much sense because that much food would be too much for a diabetic. Maybe they are sharing the meal with someone else. Or they could be like my husband who never orders a drink with a meal, and the diet soda is for the wife who is eating only a salad with it.

ok, ok you have a good point here and I am one who is guilty of this type of order. I'm diabetic and I'm not supposed to have regular coke so I order diet everything. Unfortunately, I don't remember yeah right, that I'm diabetic when I order the big meal because I'm hungry. Dumb? yeah, but I do it anyway. lol Have a great day! Char

Well, a Diet Coke is not so sweet, that's why. I'd go for all these aerated stuff - gassy drinks that can really quench your thirst, but I don't like the sweetness (that you find in regular coke or pepsi), so I'd take the Diet ones.

because they are kidding themselves it's always a fatty at the supermarket checkout with a block of tofu and a head of romaine lettuce. Didn't you know? only fat people drink diet coke!

i think they want to loose weight...at least they can order a diet coke

More often than not it's true! lol I think the diet coke is to feed their conscience...

i think it happens because there is little serious information about these topics. there are publicities all the time telling us how a diet coke will give us no calories, how it will help us stay in shape etc. but unfortunately there is also a lot of publicity telling us how good the huge cheeseburger is, and how convenient it is to get the large portions rather than a normal one, and how the more you eat, the more you should save... and not everyone has the time or interest to learn that a double cheeseburger is much worse than a regular coke...

Is simple,after you take all the food with high fat and calory,you will need to take a cup of diet coke to calm down yourself that you didn't eat much actually.futhermore,there are no diet burger or diet fries in the menu,by ordering a small size,most of us wil choose the large one.

You are a funny one! In my case I cannot drink drinks with sugar anymore. So I order always diet coke, sweet low, etc. But I think people feel less guilty about their bodies that is why.
