Protecting your ears during air travel

Let me share this tips to you guys given by my friend flight stewardess. Air travel can produce rapid air pressure changes-especially during descent-that can affect your ears. your eustachain tubes connect the back of your throat with your middle ear and help stabilize pressure inyour ears. But if the tubes don't open often enough, your ears may feel blocked. And that can hurt. So to prevent blockage, heres'the tip: 1.Chew gum. It stimulates saliva flow, which casues you to swallow often. Swallowing helps open your eustachian tubes. 2.Try yawning. This also opens your eustachian tubes 3.Don't sleep when landing. You may not swallow often enough. 4.Pinch your nose. Take a mouthful of air and gently force the air into your nose as if you were trying to blow open your nostrils. Or pinch your nostrils shut and swallow. 5.Use a decongestant nasal spray. Use the spray 30 minutes to an hour before descent. It shrinks the membranes lining your eustachian tubes so it won't close easily. It also helps open the blocked ears. Follow label direction. 6.Seek help. If 24 hours after you land your ears still haven't opened or you still have ear pain, see a doctor. Happy air travel when you got one and remember this tips.

I wouldn't travel without my Earplanes - such a simple thing, a pair of earplugs from the chemist that you put in during landing and take off. I'not sure why they work but they have done the trick for me. A parent with a small child first recommended them and said they worked brilliantly for their youngster. Before then yawning helped a lot but had me convinced I really was sleepy

my science professor in college told us that one thing to protect our ears during air travel is by having candy in our mouth. besides that it's also good to protect our ears by listening to ipods or just by using earphones...
