If people compliment you, do you believe them? and how do you react to it?

Just wondering... Do you believe the compliments you get from people? and how do you react to it? I've always been uncomfortable with compliments but I smile politely and say thank you even if there are times that I don't believe them, but hey, it's their opinion right? Who am I to say otherwise. Other people would react differently, sometimes violently. Lol. How bout you guys?

well i do believe in the intrinsic goodness of people. when i get compliments, i tend to believe in them. why else would someone compliment me for? i don't get compliments often so i don't really react well to them. i feel uncomfortable about it as most compliments i received are about my physical outlook. i'd smile and say thank you but i won't react otherwise. it seems so strange to be complimented on something i have absolutely no control over. however, i do appreciate compliments about my work or my contributions. these are at least the fruit of my hardwork. cheers ;p

I was supposed to post this earlier but had problems with my pc. Anyway, I know it really feels strange to be complimented on looks especially if the person herself/himself doesn't feel that way. Hmmm... But if it was a compliment on my work, I don't have a hard time saying thank you because it's something that I know I've worked hard for. Strange huh? hehe.

I used to find being complimented embarrassing as I was very shy but I am not so shy these days, but i am a little careful in believing all compliments as I know some people say things just for something to say...but at least I don't blush any more...

Just don't bother thinking they are sincere or not. Smile and say thank you and don't over react. Give back some compliments to them. At least you can start a good conversation. People like to be complimented. But some react ungratefully. However deep inside their heart, they like it.

I don't think there is any words could be better than'Thank you'.
You can compliment the guy who praise you in return if that could make you feel more comfortable.

Well it's pretty easy to detect a fake compliment from a true one. It practically shows on the person's reaction and delivery. When a person is so impressed, it's pretty much hard to hide. You may see it through a person's eye. They kind of glow. If i get positive compliments, then i too smile then not say anything at all. I guess that creates some more mystery about myself and what i am capable of doing and what i am as a person.

Not always. When I was about 9 years old my sister, who was about 11 at the time, said I was pretty. I honestly thought she was giving me a compliment, and it made me feel good, but I was wrong. After I said thank you, she said "pretty ugly!" I am more on the defense when someone says it now. Even though I automatically say thank you, in the back of my mind I can't help thinking "pretty ugly". It's just one of those things that stuck with me all my life.

believe or not to believe, I will never ever forget to acknowledge and appreciate the person's compliments.
