Would you jump out of a plane?

I have just been watching a parachute display team, called the Red Devils, performing in the sky. It was amazing to see.
First six people jumped out of the plane and fell like stones, then their parachutes opened and they glided, trailing plumes of red smoke. The first two carried big flags and landed first, the next three joined together in the sky, then they separated again before landing, and the last one came down alone.
I don't think I could ever jump out of a plane so high up in the sky. Have you, or would you do it?

Don't worry, you are not alone, there are many others too scared to fly in a plane.

hi there. I wouldn't jump out of a plane because I am afraid of height. I think it would be har for me to go into a plane. I feel safe and comfortbale only near the ground. I am sure I wouldn't have fun while jumping out of plane, I'd probably close my eyes even before the jump.
Luckily, I don't have to check it in reality.
Have a nice day, jazgottt.

Hi jazgottt. I think if I closed my eyes someone would have to push me out and it would still terrify me!

Anyday. I'm aspiring to be a pilot and I would have to jump out someday. Either for a parachute landing or fate forbid after a crash. . As a child I once was given this experience by my friends. Just lie on your back and look at the sky. It seems like we are falling down. That gave me an inspiration. To be free.

Yes you will need to know how to do it if you are going to be a pilot. I hope you achieve your ambition.

Bourne,I sure hope I'm not a passenger on your plane the day you decide to break the pilot's rule-"Always make sure Your number of Takeoffs equal your Landings!"
I would love to try freefall,I just don't want to do it jumping out of a perfectly servicable plane! I'd definitely consider a freefall Simulator-basically an Airtunnel where the airflow points up so you can "fly" in it..

ShepherdSpy I think that freefall simulator would be quite fun, without the fear or the view you would have when jumping from a real plane.

i would do it just for the heck of it but that is as long as there's a parachute... :D just don't wanna die yet ^_^
but that sounds like fun!!!

It's good that you would be brave enought to try it. With expert guidance and a reliable parachute you could do it.

I would definitely love to try it and experience the thrill, smell the air high up there or get lucky enough to touch the clouds.
It will be so exciting and a wonderful experience to remember forever.
If I never get the chance then I wish I could at least get to try the mock skydiving with just a few feet above the ground.
Cheers,

I don't know if skydivers ever do go as high as the clouds, but I like the idea of falling through them, that would be so cool.

Yes, that is cool guess they will need some oxygen support.

This is my life long dream, to sky dive, but I guess its too late for me now. I remember in one of Westley Snipes movie the "Drop Zone" there is this trainer sort of a big tank with a big fan. If there would be something like that in a team park here then I'll surely be on them. This is the closest I could get with sky diving.

Oh my goodness. I think I would be scared poopless if I were to jump out of a plane. I think it takes a lot of guts to do something like that. I don't think I could do the bungee jump either.

If I had a parachute and it is guaranteed to work just fine. I will. Hehe. I've always wanted to fly but sky-diving gets me close to that probably. It would be a good experience although it would probably scary somehow. I've also enjoyed during my childhood days those kind of stunts.

I think there is a difference between falling and flying but once the parachute is open it is more like flying. The display chutes are designed so the team appear to be surfing in the sky.

I would NEVER jump out of a plane. As a matter of fact, I won't even fly. Unless it meant getting to my kids I will never fly. My husband says he will get me to fly someday but I tell him until I sprout wings on my back I am fine right here on the ground!

Jumping out of a plane is very frightening. And the feeling of being pulled down by gravity is terrible (I assume), just like coming down from a roller coaster. I'd get these queasy feeling, as if my heart, stomach are going to fall down to my toes. I've not tried parachuting or dare to.

I think you describe it well. It's the falling out of the plane I would fear most. The moment of exiting into empty space and feeling the force of gravity. I saw those parachutists dropping very fast until they opened their chutes, and then they could float and glide like a kite, which I'm sure is less frightening than the freefall.

No a roller coaster ride is not like that at all. In fact whe I went on the last one, waiting for it to shoot out was the only scary part. The ride was so smooth and exhilarating, if I there were no line, I would have gone on it again.

I am scared of heights. The only reason I can fly in a plane is because I figure the plane is going too fast to fall out of the sky. I could never jump out of a plane, and if a bad guy shoved a parachute on me and said "We are taking this plane to Cuba." then I wound hold onto the door and let him fall. Besides what if I got a knapsack instead?

I think I would ask to go to Cuba with the bad guy rather than jump out

Hi Paid2Write,
Jumping out of a plane would definately be a problem for me, because first I'd have to get on a plane and that's not happening..lol!
It sounds and looks exciting when I see it, and I do admire skydivers for their heart and courage.
Maybe one day I'll overcome my fear of heights and flights but until then it's trains, feet, and automobiles for me!

I admire them too and that doesn't mean I want to be one. I have no fear of flying but I don't like being in a plane and I would much rather travel by train.

I hope you will know how it feels to be out in the air one day, either on a bungee jump or a skydive.

It's certainly not my cup of tea. I am a 51 year old woman and that is something I have never wanted to do. I think that the people who do it are playing with their lives and nature. I think it is idiotic to want to jump out of a plane, but to each their own. My son is 33 years old and for his 18th birthday he wanted to do this but I begged him not to. I told him I didn't want to bury him since he was so young and had a full life to live ahead of him. So I was able to convince him not to do it, for the time being. He did go do it when he was 25 years old and he loved it. He did it several times after that but now that he is married his wife has convinced him not to go anymore. Thank goodness, because now I can quit worrying about him when he goes, or went.

That must have been worrying for you at the time, but your son is no more an idiot than thousands of others who do it every day.

I wanted to sky dive for my graduation gift to myself. However, the money just wasn't there. On one hand it is a little crazy since I am scared of heights, but it seems like it would be exciting. I don't know that I would do it more then once and with most of the schools you have to jump that first time hooked to the instructor.

I don't think they would allow anyone to jump solo first time and I think you would be very glad to be hooked up to an instructor!

I would never jump out of a plane!
My husband did it once when he was younger, he said he would never do it again.
I guess some people are just thrill seekers. Myself, I just like to keep my feet on the ground :) Or safely buckled in the seat of the airplane if I do ride one :)
