To have surgery or Not to have surgery!

I have been going to my doctor for a while now and she wants me to have the band surgery. I am still on the fence and haven't decided whether I want to or not. I have been losing a few pounds here and there on my own. I would like some input on what others think. I have ALOT of weight to lose and want feed back on whether you would do it, have done it, or if you are thinking about doing it.

It is a really hard decision and I wish you luck in making it. I have 40-50 pounds to lose and had been trying to decide if I should take fat burners or not. It has taken me 4 months to lose 7 pounds and 5.9% body fat. I know it is slower loss then what it may be if I took pills or other ways. I decided I wanted to try and lose weight by teaching myself to eat and exercise in a healthy way. I know the journey is going to be long and hard, but I want to remember every step of the way so I don't fall back into my unhealthy habbits. I do wish you luck and hope that either way it works out for you. Keep us posted on how your doing and what you decide.

Thanks Meggan! It is a difficult decision. I have more than 50 pounds to lose and I keep reminding myself that it isn't going to come off by itself or immediately. It took me 20+ years to gain it all and it will take me time to lose it. It's difficult though because I just want to wake up skinny. LOL

I know how you feel. Everytime I lose a pound or an inch I will try on the next size smaller clothes and want to scream fit me fit me. I keep trying to tell myself that if I wake up each day and push myself one step closer to being healthy then I will wake up one day and just say WOW. Do you have an exercise program that you are following?

I don't have an exercise plan that I follow. I try to walk some but that is difficult as well because of back pain and swelling in my legs. I am hoping to go see a new doctor and maybe he/she will give me some better advice than the current one.

I know some people say it's the best thing they have ever done, but I dont like to undergo any more medical procedures than are necessary. Have you tried to find out the reasons you are overweight? Because until you do you will be at risk for putting the wieight back on. I dont think it would be my choice but I'm not everyone everybody has to decide for themselves what is best.

I think one of my biggest problems is that I drink entirely too much coke. I have started cutting down and trying to drink more water, but it's hard sometimes. I also don't get alot of exercise. I know it's all excuses and it's my own fault that I am this way, but I know that if I had some help I would be able to do better.

We'll it's really up to you weather to have it or not..but if you're asking my opinion, i'd go for exercise and healthy diets..why? because it's painful and expensive..lol Seriously..for me it's not a 100% sure that it will really works..i mean yeah maybe a few months you'll be skinny or what..but the doctors say that surgery doesn't really mean losing your weight but just removing your excess fat..I'd go for a healthy lifestyle..But then again..as i said it's really up to you..If you decided to have it make sure you're physically and mentally ready for it..no doubt and hesitation..Gudlak

well, if you are not impatient and want to lose weight in a a natural way, then you don't need to pursue the band surgery. you can still try alternative medicine like herbal thinning teas and the likes. but if you really needed to be slim right away, then go on with the surgery. just investigate first about the process whether it is proven to be effective or there are bad results from it. research about it or ask some people you know that have undergone the same process of band surgery. you should be very careful because it is your body that will suffer or benefit in the end. Good luck!
