I live in the Uk and it varies quite a lot. I attend university in London and there the cinema ticket prices can be as much as £14 which is a lot. However, in my home town, I can still buy a cinema ticket for £4 which is far more affordable.

At the regular theatres, the price is around $10-16 a person. At theatres that show older releases and no new releases, it's usually around $4-7. The dollar theatres are about $1.25-3.
Basically, it's cheaper to buy a brand new dvd and save the difference in the ticket and concessions for a big-screen setup. Or, go to the used DVD store and buy two DVDs for the price of a new one and do the same with the difference.

I live in Columbus, Ohio, in the United states. The price of a ticket really depends on what part of town you are in. If the neighborhood is nice and the theatre isn't rundown the price is usually higher. If the movie house is a dump and the area is much scarrier the price is generally cheaper. There are also a good number of second run movies or dollar cinemas as we call them. Those are nice if you can wait a bit to see a film.

It's definitely a lot more than it used to be, that's for sure. I live on the East Coast in the US and I pay 9 dollars for an evening show. 5 dollars for a matinee. I lived in the midwest last summer, and it was about 7.50 for a evening show. I really need to find out where the discount theaters are here, as they usually only charge about 5 dollars to see slightly order shows, and throw in a bucket of popcorn!
