Does your cat like to be fed at the same spot every time?

Two of my cats will eat anytime, anywhere. Just put out a dish of cat food and they come running from all parts of the house. They eat in the kitchen, laundry room, next to the front door, anywhere! But EB, the middle one, won't eat anywhere but her favorite spot. And her food spot is right in front of the refrigerator door, beside her water. She is so super picky! She has to be alone when she eats, with no other cats around or she simply gives up her food and walks away. Does your cat like to eat in the same place each time? Do they have a favorite spot where they want meals served?

My cats are not picky at all. They would eat anywhere, but their do have their fixed favorite spot. (Partly because I was trying not to let them make a mess everywhere, LOL.) But I do know some cats which are more sensitive and easy-to-be-scared. In that case, just serve their meals as they wish so they could feel more at ease.

If you're at a new place, try put her bowl near her bed, or somewhere quiet where she might feel more safe. That always works for my cats.

Will try that! Sometimes if we are traveling, I know how confusing it can be for her. My cats hate hotels. This idea will work in hotels too! Thanks!

I buy dried food for the cats, which come sin paper sacks. I used to put it in a little bowl, high up out of dog reach. however, the cats would ignore it and disappear under the worksurface where they'd find the unopened bags which i stored and rip into theose with teeth and claws until they could help themselves. So I've given up feeding it to them and now I open one sack then let them help themselves. I can always tell when it's empty as they drag the sack out into the kitchen where they can fight their way into it for the last few crumbs!

You are such a clever cat mommy! I would not have thought to do that. I'm sure my kitten would glut herself night and day, still! She is a little piggy.

They feed themselves primarily on little beasties that they hunt, so the cat food is just s supplement to them I think.

I know you have very cute cats. They may act differently than other normal cats:) We always feed our cats at the same spot every time. And they also know that it's their meal place. I love China

Yes, Youless, my cats are very unique. I am always so surprised over how unique. The oldest and youngest cats were both from outdoors originally, so that could explain why they are not set into specific patterns. The middle one, EB, was always an indoor cat and she is fixated on her spot. She has always been domesticated from the day she was born. I guess the outdoor life left an imprint on my pets. Thanks for your lovely words. It's nice to hear a friendly voice online!

My hubby and I feed all our cats in one place which is on the laundry cabinet in the laundry room. Having 9 cats, they all take their turns at the dry cat food that's always there for them and at night it's the same way when they get two cans of can cat food in two bowls, they all take their turns. Some of them know when it's feeding time and come to remind me of it. lol

How polite! My cats are super rude and push each other out of the way to eat. Well, the biggest and smallest cat does that. EB, the middle female cat waits her turn. She would wait all day so I fix her a little plate to the side where the kitten can't get at it! Otherwise she'd never eat.

Ohhhh no, I didn't say they were polite!! LOL Oh no, they push each other out of the way all the time and if I see it, I'll make the aggresser get down and wait. lol The know it's one at a time or else. lol Some will take turns with the same bowl too and I'm ok with that. One will take a bite and then the other will take a bite. It's funny to watch. Maybe I should video tape it and put it on America's Funniest Animals"

I think it is funny that she has to be alone when she eats. My cat doesn't really care he will eat pretty much anywhere at anytime. He does get used to having his food bowl at the same spot. I have actually moved his food bowl once or twice but he gets used to it quickly. Whenever I open up tuna fish I give him the juice/water whatever it is, out of it and then sometimes some of the tuna fish. He will eat that anywhere. He actually runs to me sometimes when I open up a can of tuna fish.

That's so funny you mention the fish cause last night I made salmon noodle salad and shared the salmon juice with the big cat! He was most grateful and didn't yowl all night!

When we had cats they had their set eating places and they did not like it if you put their food anywhere else. They were so picky. The dogs on the other hand will eat anywhere you put their food. We do have them trained that each dog has its on spot. Butthey all go around and shine up the others bowls afterwards to make sure nothing is left behind.

I always feed my cats in the same place but I think they would eat anywhere I put the food down. They hear me open the can and pick there bowl up and come running before the food is even the bowl and stand there meowing till I put the bowl down, it's quite funny to watch.

well i do free-feeding for my cats. the current location for the food bowl is on the dining table. it used to be on the floor but we started having ants in the food bowl. so the food bowl is shifted onto the dining table. my cats eat at all times of the day. my girl will take a few kibbles, wonder off somewhere and return for a few more kibbles. i've shifted their food bowl around a few times. they don't mind as long as it's not next to their litter pan. ;p

I really don't know. My indoor cat gets fed within a few feet of the same spot all of the time. The outside cat and her kittens also get fed in the same spot. I don't know if they would have an issue with their food moving or not.
