My cat is energetic and even hyperactive sometimes, so she always running around the house to find out whether there's something interesting going on.
Then one day, a bee happened to break in through the window. As soon as my cat noticed it, she jumped at the "intruder" and chased it all over the place before I tried everything to stop her from doing that. Since then, she has discovered a new interest in all kinds of insects/bugs, whether it's a fly, a butterfly or a beetle. She would run fast enough and jump everywhere in order to catch/torture them.
Is this a normal thing?

Yes it certainly is. Cat's will chase bugs all over. It's fun for them. I know mine loves chasing the occasional fly that gets in when the door is left open too long. Cat's love chasing most anything. They even sell wind up mice for them to chase around. It's good exercise for the cat too.

It certainly is fun for them. You can see that in their eyes. But what if they sometimes trying to eat the bugs they catch? My cat is too curious to let a bug just lies there.

I'm pretty sure it won't hurt them to eat the bugs. Now, a bee might sting them, but if they can get around that then it would probably be ok for them to eat. Cats that live outdoors eat all kinds of insects and things and it doesn't hurt them. We just think its different because they are indoor cats.

I guess human beings are usually over worried about these things and keep forgetting cats are capable of learning to adapt so that they can survive. We're just so used to the idea that they're our darling pets.

My cat loves chasing after insects. Most of them if i catch her intently staring at something I know I have to run grab a paper towel and kill a bug. Sigh. When she was a kitten she would attack the insects and kill them. Now she seems content to stare at them and if she catches them she plays with them and leaves them alive. She used to eat them as well. I didn't mind seeing as I hate bugs and that meant they were gone. It's probably safer that she doesn't eat them now though!

Hi! I think it is innate for cats to do that since hunting is one of their natures. Our cats have chased many insects (and animals too) aside from pests like rats. One chased a butterfly, one chased and even caught a fly, some worm, and lizard. Then one day, I was shocked to see some feathers in our garage...I think they caught a bird (heeyy...I think I saw a pussycat? Poor Tweety...).

My cats chase anything that happens to get into the house. If a fly gets in they will spring from where they are sitting clear across the room. They also love to play with spiders. With having to kitties in the house I don't have to worry about bugs being around!
