What is the meaning of a true friend?

I have been blessed with many true friends throughout my lifetime and I have discovered that a true friend wants nothing from you but your companionship. A true friend is the first one you call to complain about your spouse and kids, brag about your spouse and kids, talk about the problems and the blessings in life. A true friend is the one you know that you can call at 3:00 am and ask to take you to the hospital because your daughter is in labor and your car has broken down. A true friend is the person who go karoking with and will lie to protect your feelings. They will say no you didn't make a fool of yourself; you did a great job. A true friend is more like family than an acquaintance.

well a true friend accepts everything. a true friend will never criticise just to bring you down. a true friend will tell the truth and only the truth. a true friend will be there when you need. mere physical presence is not a yardstick of true friendship. how close the body is doesn't mean anything. but the closeness of the mind is what's make friends friends. i can not see my friends for months and get on just fine, as if the time lapse didn't exist at all. i see my co-workers everyday but that doesn't make them my friend because our minds are so far apart.
