Minutes to Midnight

I was an avid Linkin Park fan ever since they were known as Hybrid Theory. So I was extremely excited when they released their new CD, Minutes to Midnight. While I do like most of the songs, overall it feels as though they do not have that same edge that they used to. They're even arbitrarily throwing in the F-word now, perhaps to appear more "hardcore". It saddens me. What was your opinion of Minutes to Midnight?

I never really listened to them much in the past. I do have to say that I like the new album. My kids are the one that got me to listen to them. They are always watching the videos. So I saw them that way. I dont know the old stuff but am curious to hear them now. I will listen and let you know what I think.

You're absolutely right. It's like they did a complete turnaround, and hardly any of their songs feature the rapper, Mike Shinoda, anymore.

It was a good album, and I do enjoy the songs, but I do not feel that their lyrics are especially insightful anymore, especially "Bleed It Out". It's sort of a throw-away song, just a song to toss on the radio to get all the little "hardcore" kids excited and to stay on top of the scene that is so popular these days. I do respect their move to evolve and change, but there are some things they did not need to, such as adding profanity. I respected them a lot more as lyricists when they did not need to resort to profanity to get their message across.

I think it was an amazing album. I think their change in sound is amazing and shows how they've matured and aren't afraid of experimenting with new sounds. That's what separates Linkin Park from other bands is that they don't want to be put solely in one genre of Rock, they want to constantly evolve. If you listen to half the bands out there they sound exactly the same as they did 5 years ago, nothing new. I thought Minutes to Midnight was amazing as it had a different sound and deeper, more thoughtful songs.

I've been a big linkin park fan too, for a long time now. I was very excited to see what would come out of "Minutes to Midnight" but I really just wasn't able to connect with it as well as I was able to with their earlier albums. It didn't have that same edge, like you said, that Hybrid Theory and Meteora had. I mean, Numb, In the End, and Crawling were some of my theme songs back in the day. but I just didn't have that same connection and chemistry with their last songs. Who knows, though, maybe just didn't really try to listen closely enough.
